Just hope you don't get the opportunity to roast weiners and marshmellows real close outside. If that happens, will you join us? I'll supply the cold beer. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not too sure how my Fido would get along with that mean PitPug of CARepubGal's. And I fear that if I come out your way, it'll be to work, not for a party.
But after it's over, a celebration would be nice, even if the beer's a bit warm by then.
I've got a galpal and at least one buddy in the SD area, but I thin it's more likely that I might get a visitor to come out my way for a week or two, depending on how serious the evacuations get.

Thanks CR. That was exactly where I read it -- I remember 'cuz a few posts below that someone made the comment that if Babs' house was on fire, we'd be seeing more news coverage! hehehe!

Just think of all of those homes that abut Cowles Mtn. Last time there was a small fire there my friend told me about all the wildlife that came into her yard!
I see coyotes, hear owls and see lots of rabbits and kangeroo mice on my morning training runs at Cowles. It seems that Del Cerro and La Mesa will be o.k.

Is that haze on the cam pic from the smoke?

Press Conference on Radio:
SD Police Chief.....police will be there all night long, not allowing access of homes back to people until safe. They are prepared to have presence in the city for the next three days.
Council member....."saw today devastation never seen before....heed warnings to get out......stunned and devastated to see fire ravage area...."
Council member Scott Peters: "came to see area of Rancho Pinyo Scitos (?) ... thankfully, those areas are okay....thanks to the firefighters...."

Nice dog. The Yorkie is fearsome. That "little Dog syndrome" kicks in and he has to prove he is as mean as the Rottis or other big dogs. ;-) I think a celebration would be good. San Diego Unified announced all schools were closed tomorrow along with the rural districts. This is really getting bad. This is the big fire that has been predicted for years. God save all of us!

That is what I worry about. A lot of homes were built in that area. ya think the envirowackos thought about the animals they would kill?

Two questions:
I realized the news coverage is pitiful, but exactly how pitiful is it? It's starting to sound as if things are really quite awful out there, and that the rest of the country is not fully aware of it AND even lots of folks in KA are not fully aware....? At the risk of sounding paranoid or much too speculative (not to mention that the officials have other things to deal with right now), I'm wondering what the state and fed authorities are thinking right now!
Also, is the Wild Animal Park at risk?

So will they fight the fires at night by ground?
Surely they won't just let it burn.

I don't expect losing radio communications for the next few days would be a real big help to the firefighters, either:

Product: Report of Solar-Geophysical Activity
:Issued: 2003 Oct 23 2200 UTC
# Prepared jointly by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, NOAA,
#Radio Center, #Radio Lab,
#Space Environment Center and the U.S. Air Force.
#
Joint USAF/NOAA Report of Solar and Geophysical Activity SDF Number 296
Issued at 2200Z on 23 Oct 2003
IA. Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 22/2100Z to 23/2100Z:
Solar activity was at high levels again today. Region 486 (S16E70) produced a major flare at 23/0835 UTC; it was an X5/1b event, with an associated Tenflare and a Type II radio sweep that had an estimated shock velocity of 967 km/s. An associated CME was also seen on SOHO/LASCO imagery. A second major flare from this region occurred at 23/2004 UTC, which was an impulsive X1/1n flare. This region is just rotating into view on the southeast limb, and is obviously a very large group, with a complex beta-gamma-delta magnetic configuration. Region 484 (N04W00) was active producing several M-class flares today. The largest was an M3/1n event that occurred at 23/0708 UTC. This region continues to depict a complex beta-gamma-delta magnetic structure. No new regions were numbered today. The F10 value is estimated and is based on the Penticton morning reading due to a flare enhancement during the reading of the noon value.
IB. Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be at high levels. Regions 484 and 486 are both very capable of producing major flares.
IIA. Geophysical Activity Summary 22/2100Z to 23/2100Z:
The geomagnetic field was at quiet to unsettled levels. The greater than 2 MeV electron fluxes at geosynchronous orbit were at high levels today.
IIB. Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to range from active to major storm levels for the forecast period. These elevated conditions are expected as a result of the partial halo CME on 22/0754 UTC and from the X5/1b flare at 23/0835 UTC.
III. Event Probabilities 24 Oct-26 Oct
Class M 90/90/90
Class X 50/50/50
Proton 25/30/35
PCAF yellow
IV. Penticton 10.7 cm Flux
Observed 23 Oct 183
Predicted 24 Oct-26 Oct 190/195/195
90 Day Mean 23 Oct 114
V. Geomagnetic A Indices
Observed Afr/Ap 22 Oct 020/033
Estimated Afr/Ap 23 Oct 008/010
Predicted Afr/Ap 24 Oct-26 Oct 040/050-040/050-030/050
VI. Geomagnetic Activity Probabilities 24 Oct-26 Oct
A. Middle Latitudes
Active 30/30/40
Minor storm 40/40/30
Major-severe storm 30/30/20
B. High Latitudes

They set backfires, protect people and structures to the best of their abilities. They may fallback and give their loved one's a brief call and get 40 winks. What else can they do?

Last I knew there were 11 fires in Central/So. CaliforniaCentral? Can you be more specific? It's very dry here and still hot but no Santa Ana winds.
To: Canticle_of_Deborah
No, but the link I provided for the map can.

Fire is over the hills into Santee now. Fire clearly visible from my house near Santana HS. I really didn't expect it to make it out here. At least the winds have died down. I have bags packed ready to get my family out...

Nice dog. The Yorkie is fearsome. That "little Dog syndrome" kicks in and he has to prove he is as mean as the Rottis or other big dogs. ;-) Yorkies are darlings- I knew a cave rescue team that used one as a search dog, and he did his job as well underground as any of his larger counterparts above ground.
It's not that they are little dogs; they're just in compact little bodies.
