"I sent them an e-mail yesterday. AARP responded with they haven't taken a stand. I would copy and paste but I can't open edit when my aol mail on for some reason." It is my understanding that that is untrue. I received a FReepmail from Saundra Duffy this afternoon and asked her permission to post it. Hadn't gotten around to it till now. Here is the content of the FReepmail, including the letter that she wrote to AARP"
"I just read on a pro life web site that the AARP/Florida is considering jumping in this - TO SUPPORT MICHAEL SCHIAVO! Spread the word! I have just sent the following email to AARP Florida (flaarp@aarp.org):" "I just read on a website that AARP is considering entering the legal battle over Terri Schiavo, not to save Terri from being deprived of food and water, but to support her "husband" in his quest to kill her. I am an AARP member (#307082496 0) and so help me God if AARP sticks its nose into this fight to help KILL a living breathing innocent human being, I will raise holy hell. Furthermore, I think it is despicable that you, who are supposed to be advocating for the rights of older, vulnerable persons, would even consider supporting those who wish to terminate lives of persons with disabilities. Terri Schindler Schiavo is simply a person with severe disabilities but that does not make her less human. If AARP participates in this grizzly murder, you deserve our contempt and disgust. It is against the law to withhold food and water from FARM ANIMALS. Yet AARP wants to participate in the starvation of a living breathing innocent human being. For God's sake, do not enter this legal battle over life and death! Terri's "husband" and his lawyer have got some kind of money scam going on. The public is not being fully informed. Michael Schiavo has used about a half a million dollars that was supposed to have gone to care for Terri to give to his lawyer for legal fees. A half a million dollars!! And AARP wants to help Mr. Schiavo and his lawyer?! You have to be kidding. Please, again I beg you, do not enter this legal circus. Mr. Schiavo and his lawyer were nearly able to murder an innocent woman. Thank God Gov. Bush stepped in or Terri would be dead already. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!"
I am changing the name of my "Friends of Terri" ping list to "Terri's Army". Anyway, anybody wanting on or off, let me know.

After I sent out to my email group this a.m., I immediately rec'd back replies letting me know that AARP is very liberal and was very supportative of Clintoon. I figured right then that they'd not be helpful; however, I do not see their payees being none too happy with them taking a stand on killing the disabled for obvious reasons.

Michael Schiavo has used about a half a million dollars that was supposed to have gone to care for Terri But CNN reported that Michael had been awarded $1.75 Million dollars. (300k was for Michael to find a new companion) and 1.45 Million was for Terri's funds.
Felos reported yesterday there is only $55K left in Terri's funds, PLUS "he and one other lawyer has not been paid for over a year".
That means ALL of the money has now 'vanished', since the outstanding bills are much greater than $55K.

The American Assn. of Retired Persons (AARP) has lobbied for "right to die" laws and appears to endorse epivalothanasia (imposed death). An AARP spokesman testified before a Montana legislative committee on 2/2/87, saying that AARP worked hard to get the Montana Living Will Act enacted and admitting, "I can assure you that the full intent of we [sic] who drafted the bill...(was to) include food (and) water...within the realm of items that could be withdrawn under provisions of the Living Will." The Hemlock Society of Illinois congratulated AARP for printing an article promoting Hemlock, SRTD and Concern for Dying (CFD) in its June-July 1988 issue of Modern Maturity.
