I think it's federal money that's distributed through the state. Definitely counts as fed money.

This -Post 2065 needs to be copied and mailed/e-mailed/ faxed to every major media out let and, perhaps someone could find the nurse and she could talk about her story. This is not getting out in the mainstream press.

My email to CNN written in haste:
Frankly, I am disgusted with the quality of coverage given this woman. I see these polls showing a high percentage of people wanting Terri's tubes pulled.
The problem with that is the public are told over and over again by the media that she is a vegetable, etc. Maybe some of your viewers wouldn't want to live that way, but Terri left no instructions. And for us to "mind read" and assume she wants to die is irresponsible. We should err on the possibility that Terri might want to live. She was denied therapy. What do you guys expect her condition to be? Why don't you put value on human life instead of constantly tearing it down because a person is not "productive" or "strong" in your eyes. I'm sick and tired of the culture of death.
I think your company should change your coverage and come to this women's defense, someday you might need defending.
Regretfully,

I hate to say this, but by Florida law - the statutes written by the legislature - Judge Greer's ruling was legal. The flaw that I see in Florida is that when there is a dispute, it goes to a judge. The judge decides. By Fla law, in order to disconnect the feeding tube, Terri must be PVS, and there must be clear and convincing evidence that that is what she would want. We all know she isn't pvs, and the evidence is far from clear and convincing, however, Greer makes the call. If he is "convinced" on both counts, then it's legal to do it. The higher courts go along with it, and the fed courts won't intervene in a state issue. I still think that it's a violation of fed and state law to deny her the chance to eat by mouth before doing it, but again, none of the judges agree with me, so disconnecting the tube was "legal".
The courts in Florida don't seem to want to acknowledge that these Fla. statutes conflict with the U.S. and Florida constitutional right to life. So doesn't that make the statutes illegal? I think those are the laws they need to worry about being unconstitutional.

You are right. If anyone wants to argue Constitutionality of the law, then the Schindlers should because of the obscure nature of the law as written. The judge has no real direction in determining what clear evidence is. It's solely at his discretion, which allows a judge leeway to decide something that violates the rights of a person in the act of giving those same rights away.
Which might be good were it not for an activist FLSC that would determine this... It's like everything in the world is stacked against this poor woman.
Too bad Mikey couldn't get the max sixty days for adultery, and have a judge rule him unavailable to be Terri's guardian.

The writings/sayings of Felos needs a separate, well written, vanity thread that all could reference. This then needs to be sent to all media outlets, to expose who this demon possessed, jim Jones nutcase is. I would do it but don't have the book.

"The problem with that is that the public are told over and over again that she is a vegtable exc."
Yep, that's it, and that's why the polls are showing so many people in favor of starving Terri to death. They are totally un-informed. Helping Mike S starve his disabled wife to death-
Isn't this just something the media can be really "proud" of(wretch!!!).
As for CNN, they are totally useless/lazy. No wonder Fox News runs rings around them in the ratings. They are at least trying to give both sides of this story.
On a different note, I noticed they are going to try and overturn the Fl Legislature
-1st thing-Everyone in the Fl. Leg. needs to constantly remind the public that when the libs are talking about "overturning", they mean to starve Terri to death, that's what this is about.
- Terri signed no living will,
-Her husband is suspicious.
- We are talking about life and death here , not some legal mumbo-jumbo.
- Terri dies-is executed by starvation- if the left succeeds.
Also, I heard Florida has laws that prohibit euthanasia right? Terri has no terminal illness, is not on oxygen , or anything other than the feeding tube. If you STOP GIVING FOOD AND WATER to any living being-IT WILL DIE.
This is undisputed fact
So denying Terri food and water is EUTHANASIA isn't it?
Sorry for the over-use of "bold" in my post, but this seems so simple. Why do so many people NOT get it?

"The problem with that is that the public are told over and over again that she is a vegtable exc." Here's a redo of my post 2096 on this thread:
This is SO true!! Case in point, my mom. I spoke with her this evening for the first time in a couple of weeks (she has been gone visiting extended family and just returned). She lives in Gainesville, a mere two hour drive from Clearwater. I have a sister in Tampa, and a brother in Winter Haven. Mom only gets the local newspaper but does have cable TV. She does not have the internet.
Until tonight when we spoke, she thought that this was a tough call. She finally said that she did see a picture of Terri and that she appeared to be smiling, so she just wasn't sure. When I told her that Terri hasn't had her teeth brushed in 10 years, or had gynecology exams, or wasn't even allowed to have flowers or be taken outside because her wheelchair had a broken wheel, she FLIPPED! She did not know any of that stuff!
Believe me, I filled her in on Michael's fiancee and child, the way Michael said nothing about Terri's so-called "intentions" during a jury trial for the malpractice suit, and the "DO NOT RESUSCITATE" order that was put on in 1993. My mom was grateful that there were people out there (like us!) who are trying to help get Terri's story out. If it weren't for the internet, I'd probably know very little myself.
The point is, the major media has been selecting which parts of the story that they will include, and which parts they'll leave out. It could be intentional, or it could be lazy reporters. We need to Freep our print media as well as televised, because my mom is a perfect example of a warm and caring person who might have sided with Michael because she was not informed of more. I asked her to please bring this up to her friends in conversation and she promised me she would (she has Garden Club and other small groups she socializes in).Terri IS being talked about in little circles of people, but they are still being misinformed by the media. We've got to keep working hard to change that.

765.305 Procedure in absence of a living will.--
(1) In the absence of a living will, the decision to withhold or withdraw life-prolonging procedures from a patient may be made by a health care surrogate designated by the patient pursuant to part II unless the designation limits the surrogate's authority to consent to the withholding or withdrawal of life-prolonging procedures.
(2) Before exercising the incompetent patient's right to forego treatment, the surrogate must be satisfied that:
(a) The patient does not have a reasonable medical probability of recovering capacity so that the right could be exercised by the patient.
(b) The patient has an end-stage condition, the patient is in a persistent vegetative state, or the patient's physical condition is terminal.
765.309 Mercy killing or euthanasia not authorized; suicide distinguished.--
(1) Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to condone, authorize, or approve mercy killing or euthanasia, or to permit any affirmative or deliberate act or omission to end life other than to permit the natural process of dying.
765.305 appears to me to be in direct contradiction to 765.309. One could argue the opposite, however, the Florida Constitution sides with 765.309.

"when I told her Terri hasn't had her teeth brushed in 10 years..."
Yes, I've gotten this reaction from people too. Some of my co-workers(nurses) were quite shocked and disgusted to learn the true details of this case.
They were umder the false impression ( thanks to the useless press ), that Terri was comatose and some thought she was on a ventillator, and husband wanted to "pull the plug". I am happy to report that most of them have changed their minds to "Terri should be allowed to live" side now.

You didn't mention the winter clothes she was wearing over last few days in hospice -- Sun, Mon, Tues? Can we publicly verify that at this time (I believe my source)? Why is family so reticent; why not an immediate indignance at and publicizing what incredible wrong is done?
IMP. INFO: It is likely Terri suffered some degree of kidney damage due to dehydration. Atty. Felos confirmed this in AP story at . Her kidney function should be MONITORED with ongoing lab tests that cannot be done at the hospice. IF Terri were to require dialysis, it cannot be done at the hospice. Mike Bell of hospice explained typical hospice policy to me yesterday, parenthetically speaking: "it would be up to the primary attending physician and the guardian IF a (nonterminal) patient were to receive additional treatment." We know from other actions (see pcnote below) that will not be done.
Generalized infection/sepsis is another concern -- and would further damage the kidneys.
It is crucial that Terri has an ADVOCATE who respects her life. May God supply her with that advocate NOW, today, before any more evil is done to her.
May God bring forward & bless all who are willing to speak up, take a stand against the wrongs being done to Terri and her family. May He soften hard hearts, break down every stronghold of evil we are up against. Take care, guys -- prayers for your strength and safety and for all working for Terri.

Call Steve Holmes at the Abuse Hotline 800-962-2872, direct 850-922-2563. This is what I would give him. I still have to add to it and anyone can use this info., revise, or add, etc. Everyone who can, do so.
1) Terri Schindler Schiavo yanked back and forth between Hospice Woodside and Morton Plant Hospital facilities: e.g. Labor Day weekend time frame when she was taken to Morton Plant from Hospice Woodside due to pneumonia and was prematurely removed back to hospice and then once again back to hospital but was denied treatment at Michael's request and taken back to hospice.
Latest incident Oct. 21. taken to hospital from hospice 7pm. Legislature/Governor Executive Order ordered hydration/nutrition etc. Felos representing Michael Schiavo sent info. to hospitals, etc. not to treat Terri or they will be sued. This went against governor's Executive Order and represents a clear violation via hindrance of said executive order in that Terri did not immediately get the treatment she needed after being dehydrated/starved for 6 days. This included denial of IV line.
Hospital did not want to take her and she was in the ambulance for 10 to 25 minutes. FDLE had to force the issue with Executive Order. Family denied visitation - Bob Schindler Jr. family made to wait until 3pm yesterday. Michael Schiavo faxed hospital that family allowed to visit.
Upon reaching hospital Terri was not there. Family denied information as to where Terri was taken because of Hippa laws and news outlet BayNews9 found out somehow that she was possibly going back to hospice.
When Terri arrived at hospice and Mary S. finally got to visit Terri, she said she did not see any IV line for the ORDERED hydration as was regarded best for Terri under the circumstances. She was informed that they had inserted the port to accept a feeding tube. This shows Terri is not being properly taken care of. Terri should never have gone back to hospice and should be receiving critical care.

In any email or conversation, be firm but polite in order to best make your point. Consider the person you're addressing -- let them know you are praying for them to do the right thing -- for in the end, this is a spiritual battle. Pray, set your mind, know your efforts are appreciated.
CONTACT info from Ragtime Cowgirl:
As of now, and when medical care was most needed, Michael Schiavo is still making all the decisions.
Terri looks worse today than she did before being moved to the Hospital and back to the hospice.
Please contact others and ask why, during the 5 days BOTH sides have to come up with a guardian, is the side fighting to save Terri not allowed a say in her medical treatment, please!
So what happens when these patients need further care, eg, dialysis that cannot be given there? Then they would be transported to hospital or other facilityIF this is what had been requested and agreed upon by the primary care physician AND THE GUARDIAN.
Michael and the physician will not do this. I believe this is it. Unless Terri is removed right now. Gov. Bush, are you listening?
Contact these most helpful people, please, and let them know that Michael Schiavo is calling the shots re. Terri, and that she was moved back to the Hospice from the Hospital:

Admitting Terri to that hospice is ILLEGAL in the first place... I don't think she belongs there, but how is it illegal?
