What happened to the story about the Florida senate passing their bill? It was in breaking news and now it's gone. Is it still "news"?

Senate debated it this morning, and voted to add an ammendment. It will go before the house possibly at 2:00 and then back to the Senate for a final vote.

Then Gov. Bush will sign it into action, and the stay will be inforce.. but then Michaels attorneys will most likely file an appeal.

There is a high liklihood tht nothing will be done for Terri until tomorrow morning, if all goes well.

Just my view, I could be very very wrong, i pray that I am.

anyone else have any other input?

Surely they won't wait until tomorrow! They will have done very little good at all by waiting that long.

"Of course, this is assuming she had no medical issues that I'm unaware of beforehand. Also, I have no idea what effect the morphine would have on her (raising or lowering metabolism, that is)."

It was reported over the weekend that MS ordered the medication stopped because Terri's mom had trouble waking her up one day. As horrible as that sounds, it may have actually helped her.

A lot of people seem to confuse a persistent vegetative state with brain death. They are not equivalents.

The courts have never found she has "no brain activity".. they have found her conscious awareness is significantly impaired, and while she has reflex reactions to stimuli, she doesn't "think" and is not aware. They have found her state is "persistent"....; in other words, there is no reasonable hope of recovery from this state or return to consciousness.

Don't know about Judge Moore. Just found this on a Judge Merrywether:

I just talked to the office of the Senator who represents my district in South Florida, Skip Campbell. He is a dem. The lady I talked to was really nice and she agreed that it was horrible what had been done. She said the Senator voted to put it on the calendar today and has already added some ammendments to the bill. One of those would be dealing with guardian ad litum. She said that although she hasn't gotten a yes or no, she believes he is in vfavor of passing the bill. She also told me their e-mail has crashed, and that they are getting calls from Canada. Keep it up freepers.

I didn't pipe up in regard to the truth of the matter reg Terri's brain state.

Simply, there is a profound difference between legal "brain death" and a persistent vegatative state. Some are saying since she isn't brain dead, she is then not in a persistent vegatative state. Such persons are misinformed.

It's just a classification and wasn't meant to fit Terri. It was used so that Michael Schiavo, etc. with the complicity of the State of Florida could do to her what they are doing to her right now. It never should have happened!

This is NOT always the case Sarah. Now, I could take the time to post that my nephew is proof of this. Many others could do the same regarding a loved one, a friend, or a friend of a friend. While I do not disregard medical science, I do believe that it is impossible to completely and without a doubt understand the human will. The instinct to survive and overcome exceeds the earthly realm of knowledge. In Terri's case, how do we KNOW, without a shred of doubt that her conscious awareness is severely impaired? We know that she is not able to communicate with us what she is consciously aware of. Can YOU, or anyone else, offer solid proof that Terri does not think? Her inability to relay her thoughts to us is NOT proof. That is akin to saying that a person who has had a stroke and who cannot speak and is paralyzed can not think.

No reasonable hope? Please, that is a load of BS. I have seen a young man, who by all medical definitions, had no reasonable hope. Because of the work of nurses, therapists, and a strong family love and dedication, he has proven that "diagnosis" of "no reasonable hope" to be wrong. Let me add that when there is no "reasonable" hope we also have hope in our Saviour's healing power. There are some of us who do not place all of our hopes on man's ability. While recognizing medical science for the blessing that it is, there is a Greater Physician who says it is not the final authority.

The human brain has been and will remain a mysterious organ. Divinely created it cannot be decoded by man and machines. It holds potential not yet unlocked. I ask you, when Terri smiles, when she cries, when she responds to stimuli, what is that? Is it a coincidental reflexive response? Sorry, I don't buy that. It is an appeasement. It is easier to say that it is reflexive rather than to say, "I don't know. I don't understand everything there is to understand about the human brain. It is too complex for my finite mind".

When you, or anyone else, finds the key that unlocks the mysteries to the human brain and discovers ALL that there is to know about it, get back with me. Upon your proof that you have ALL of the answers, only then will I accept your opinion of no reasonable hope.
