So in a free society the voters of Florida can't pass a constitutional amendment? I guess it's only free if you agree with it?

In a Constitutional Republic, which we purportedly still are, the rights of the minority cannot be voted away by the majority.

I propose that a majority of us on this thread vote to take your house from you.

You can keep the drapes.

If the state decides things by majority rule the it may take the house. According to the constitution you must be compensated for this. These restaurant owners had there property taken and they should be compensated.

Actually, that's not a true statement unless it is qualified, like this:

"In a Constitutional Republic, which we purportedly still are, the rights of the minority cannot be voted away by the majority, UNLESS it's a big enough majority."
