Besides, many restaurants and bars have open areas where non-smokers and smokers hang out together.

That's great in Florida! They are starting a new ban in Maine come 1 January. ALL bars and taverns. The restaurants in Maine have been smoke free since 1999. Now they are taking away the bars and taverns. Can you imagine trying to smoke outside a bar or tavern in January, February and March? With the sub zero temperatures? That is why I won't be spending my money out anymore for recreation. They can keep it for themselves. I will stay at home, order in and have friends over.

It's an overkill.

Every decade or so, we go into these crusades where we choose a public villain.

Currently, smoking is the evil du jour.

At least, small neighborhood bars should be excepted, as well as bars that install ventilation systems designed to capture tobacco smoke.

America is the land of innovation and invention, no need for these draconian measures.

So the net effect on businesses in your area is zero. You may not frequent the restaurants after the ban takes effect, but your grocer will appreciate the extra business.
