Thanks for the bump. Interesting reading. When I got my first rifle, it was simply what I happened to get for Christmas and what dad and mom could afford and thought would be the best for me.

Same here....when I was a pup we had in our home a Model 74 Winchester .22 and a Winchester Model 12 Pump Shotgun and my Sheridan Blue streak Pellet gun. We kept, deer, dove, duck , phesant, rabbit, squirrel on the table year round with just those three tools.
KISS principal for harvesting game is best IMHO. That's why I like single shot Ruger Number # 1's for the lower 48 an my old Pre-64 Winchester 70 in 375H&H with just fixed sights for places where I ain't high on the food chain.........:o)
