Next year though!
Still, I came about as close as anybody possibly could to predicting a game like THIS. Considering that I need the money, I will happily take bribes to predict World Series game outcomes, to the highest bidder. ;)
It was pretty good -- they interviewed Boone and Giambi in the YES studio, and interviewed a bunch of other Yankees in the clubhouse. Giambi said he got stuck in traffic today due to the watermain break in Washington Heights, and had to get a police escort to the game!
Many thanks for the YES update. :-)
Incidentally, did anyone record game 7 on DVD? I'd be willing to pay $50 for that (can play it on my laptop). Email me if you can help. I would really love to see the whole game, even though I know how it turned out.
Incidentally, I forgot to mention that on the game 6 live thread I said I expected Mariano Rivera to go 3 innings if necessary. I'm telling you, I've never been so accurate in my life. But to be fair, as I was preparing my dinner prior to game 7, I said out loud to myself 'I think the Sox will take this one in a squeaker. Hate to say it, but that's my prediction.' So I can't pick them all. I was right about the squeaker part though.
I have a history of not being able to watch gut-wrenching parts of games that threaten to put the Yankees in a deep hole or eliminate them. I turned the TV off in 2001 before BOTH of the two-run home runs off Kim against Arizona. I'm far too rational to say that this affected the outcome of the game. It was just bizarre. And I'm perfectly happy to watch those plays I missed on SportsCenter as long as my favored team wins. I guess my theory is, if they win, great! If they lose, well, I didn't waste my time and the lining of my stomach watching it.
That said, I watched ALL of game 7 of the 2001 series. Maybe I should have turned the TV off as Mariano came to the mound...;)
You forgot beanball, Brian (Cashman, for the Boone trade), Bernie (for driving in the first run in the 8th inning comeback), and Baker (Dusty, for inspiring Torre to use three starters, and inspiring Little to leave Pedro in too long).
Oh, and Joe Buck, of course. The third 'Buck'.
Of course, those who hate the Yankees purely for having and spending more money, the main 'B' is also a Buck: "More bucks (as in dollars)".
But above it all, when it comes down to it, the important 'B' here is baseball.
There, I've had my Bob Costas moment. We now return you to your regularly scheduled game thread.
You and me both. Only I missed everything from the beginning of the 7th on. See my earlier posts a few dozen replies up. No matter, SportsCenter is showing the highlights several times. Good enough for me.
