PLEASE ,PLEASE go to the website http://www.terrisfight.org and read the letters that have just been sent to Jeb Bush in regards to the Terri Schiavo case. JEB BUSH can LEGALLY STOP THIS. CALL his office, CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES, CALL and email the media.THE CLOCK is ticking to save her life.

I prefer to take such occurrences on a "case-by-case" basis. It is apparently however that you wish to lump all children together under one rubric. More "for the children" hypocrisy.

So do you think it would be ok for brain damaged children to be used to harvest organs for transplant, before they have died? While they are alive, that is, they have their organs taken for use in transplant?

It was unpleasant that she died. We loved her very much.

My mother left us a few years ago.

My condolences. Mine died a couple of years ago, screaming on a hospital gurney from the pain of a dissected aortic aneurysm, as I watched helpless to do anything. No Living Will, no instructions of any kind. "Fortunately" for her, she died in surgery and didn't end up chained to a hospital bed or being fed through a tube.

She had a living will, and while it didn't make the process pleasant, she was able to die in comfort and dignity.

You (and your mother) were exceedingly fortunate, sir or madam.

Fortunately for her she was not subjected to 1-2 weeks of slow torture through deliberate, terminal dehydration.

After that, everything else is a piece of cake.

So since we don't know what Terri would have wanted to do with her "right" to die, what is the way to proceed? Err on the side of life, or err on the side of death?

If you consider being imprisoned in a hospital bed, taking your nourishment through a tube, and being helpless to even move a finger as "life", then fill out your Living Will accordingly. In my own case, I don't consider such a horrible existence to be "life" in any way shape or form.

Let's stay on topic. What should be done with people like Terri who did not choose and are now too brain damaged to do so for themselves?

But what if, with therapy, you could begin to eat again, could move your fingers again, could communicate and interact with the world again?

What if doing so would enable you to hold your first grandchild?
Or to see your daughter graduate from college?
Or to see your son come home from war?

Terri needs therapy, not death.

I've had a Living Will on file for years, and now carry a wallet-sized card with instructions on how to find the "legal" copies in my files and on my computer. I'll never go that way if it is within my power to avoid it.

There are ample precedents within the current law to decide that. And they are being done in this case.
