In the realm of canine communication, a Nazi salute is a real step upward when you consider the fact that until this moment, the dog had been limited to butt sniffing as the primary means of having some dialogue.

I aways get a kick out of the German's over-compensation as they try to distance themselves from their own history. I wonder if the "Hammer & Sickle" or extreme socialism is unconstitutional in Germany considering it killed more people and has practiclly turned their country into a tyrannical state.

Oktober has that effect on some people.
OTOH, had he performed this trick in Germany 60 years ago, he would probably have been shot - and his doggie too.

"It makes me sick to think someone's using his dog as an instrument of his deranged brain," Carola Ruff told the paper.
Naming your dog Adolph and teaching him the Nazi salute is not exactly honoring Hitler and his minions, Carola! Sounds like your spring is wound a little too tight!

Almost as heretical as the guy who trained his dog to say "Joe DiMaggio" instead of "Ruth"

Just damn.If you want on the new list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...
[As i mentioned, the B/C & JD! lists are going to float into and out of whack over the forseeable future, while I try to cobble a rig back together for myself. My apologies for any incovenience or misunderstandings in this time frame. New signups/removals may be flaky in this time-frame as well; please bear with me, and keep in mind you may have to FReepmail me more than once for me to get it done. Thanks again!]

It's a Roman salute, not a Nazi one! Right fist to heart, extend hand, plam down.
It was even used in this country up till the 30's. It is the oldest documented form of salute.

Carola Ruff, of the local animal protection organisation, says the dog shouldn't be judged for what its owner taught it.
"It makes me sick to think someone's using his dog as an instrument of his deranged brain," she told the paper.
.. as she left to attend a "Jewish Zionists out of Palestine Rally" wearing her " I love Yasser and the PLO" T shirt.

The black sheepdog-mix, named Adolf, has been taught to lift his right front paw up straight in the salute on command. When a patrol arrived, he allegedly showed them the trick he had taught his dog, gave the salute along with Adolf, and shouted: "Sieg Heil."That is so jaded---That being said,I just burst out laughing in my office, (nearly uncontrollably imagining the freak scene) praying there would be a picture, so I could justify this hearty laughter. Darn!

I think the racial reference in this piece is just disgusting! They couldn't just say a sheepdog mix, Noooooo! They had to pour salt into the wound and portray him as a black sheepdog!
Does Germany have the equivalent of a canine ACLU? Paging Jesse Jackson, paging Jesse Jackson! Paging PETA lawyers!!

Now he has been charged with using symbols of unconstitutional organisations. If found guilty, he faces up to three years in prison. And yet, when the German Justice Minister, Herta Daeubler-Gmelin, compared President Bush to Hitler in a political speech to the German press, she was only forced to resign her position (and that only after a period of extreme US outrage). No threat of jail time for her.
Isn't a political speech, especially one by a high-ranking government official, a more powerful "symbol" than a private citizen's dog raising its paw?
