Total firearms deaths = 28663
Accidental firearms deaths = 776
Suicide = 16,586
(Suicide whites - 14,454, blacks - 1,090)
Deaths due to assault w/ firearm = 10,801
(Assault deaths whites - 4,806, blacks - 5,699)
Legal intervention (I assume these are "good shoots") = 270
Undetermined intent = 230

Thanks to those who replied to my skepticism. The 28,000 number is valid depending on how it was interpreted, but the suicide numbers (about 60 percent of the total deaths) is the remarkable part. Also the difference in races comparing suicides and homicides is striking.

There was a report in the Journal of the American Medical Association in August 2000 about the effect of the Brady Bill. About the only positive effect that was found was a reduction in suicide by firearms in men 50 - 60 years old, IIRC. However, the total suicide rate for that group remained the same, meaning they just found another way to commit suicide.

Another interesting fact was that in a recent year, maybe 2000, the weapon used to commit homicide was not a firearm about 43% of the time.

Notice how they consolidate their efforts with the NOW crowd and only write about women and children harmed by men. They deliberately ignore all the domestic violence initated by females, for which studies to document said violence is not politically correct to fund or publish.

Anyone serious about domestic violence will find it started by females most of the time. The men get the bad public relations because the men in defending themselves cause the female attackers to have worse injuries. IIRC, I read one study that stated about 90% of domestic violence was started by women.

When you think about it, how many men are willing to admit they we're physically assaulted by their wife or "significant other" and were too afraid to accuse the perpetrator, defend themselves or admit having their butt kicked by some virago.

Also, please return to comment# 23 on this thread where Brady embraces the socialist agenda.
