Dolley was well known as a very socially gracious woman and Madison frequently asked her for help when receiving ladies to The White House and when receiving dignitaries.

Having been born in North Carolina she no doubt turned on the Southern charm giving some gentility to the ‘’peoples house’’ , smoothing out what might have seemed brash a place for such a new nation.
