Dolley Madison nee. Todd(1798- 1849) was born in Guilford County, North Carolina.

By every illustration of her she appears to be a bit plump and rosy cheeked. But I believe that's how they liked them in that day. Certainly every freedom loving 2nd Amendment supporter should be extremely grateful to her husband. That man more than any other is the reason the 2A is in the Bill of Rights.

And they say she's still with us... Dolley Madison The irrepressible Dolley Madison is best known today for rescuing the Gilbert Stuart painting of George Washington from the White House before the British burned it down during the War of 1812. But in ghost lore, she’s best known for reportedly encountering two gardeners during the Wilson administration a century later. First Lady Edith Wilson asked the two to move the fabled Rose Garden, which Madison had created and nurtured. The gardeners were reportedly met by an angry Dolley. Today, the Rose Garden remains where Dolley Madison wanted it.

During receptions and receiving ladies to The White House President Madison would often ask her to play host as Dolley was well known for her social graces.

Dolley also presided over the first inaugural ball when her husband was elected establishing a precedent with every new administration since and she frequently served ice cream at White House dinners.

Wow. That’s amazing. What a woman.

And what a skank Edith Wilson was. I didn’t know that grasping witch wanted to remove The Rose Garden.

What a bitch.

Dolley was well known as a very socially gracious woman and Madison frequently asked her for help when receiving ladies to The White House and when receiving dignitaries.

Having been born in North Carolina she no doubt turned on the Southern charm giving some gentility to the ‘’peoples house’’ , smoothing out what might have seemed brash a place for such a new nation.

Another side to Barbra Bush.

Traveling with a group of young Black female college students as part of a group attending a convention somewhere in the South she was allowed a room in a motel but the four Black girls weren't. She turned on her heel and walked out. When Al Gore Senior was traveling and took his black housekeeper along he'd bring her a sandwich in the back seat of the car while he and family ate inside.

Actually, George Mason also played a huge role in the Bill of Rights. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goGkBHx8LHA

If you want to read a good book about James and Dolley you should read “James and Dolley Madison America’s First Power Couple” by Bruce Chadwick.

Abigail Adams was also a powerhouse, but a quiet First lady! She and John were a team; he needed her calmness. It was a true love match.

Then you REALLY need to learn a lot more history!

Until now, it was only Mrs. Wilson who was actually doing the job of president, for her completely disabled husband, who was also a LOUSY and extremely naive, not to mention RACIST and SOCIALIST president, when he was more or less sentient.

“This is the first time I am proud of my country.” Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton who weaponized the FBI files were IMHO the worst First Ladies.

The worst First Family is the Biden Family.

Nixon was a WONDERFUL one and a very underappreciated VEEP!

I overlooked him and Mrs. Nixon and for that I’m so ashamed. I too thought he was a good President and Mrs. Nixon was the epitome of grace under pressure.

He wasn’t vice president for very long, and had no idea about the bomb development.

But he sure knew what to do when he found out didn’t he?....;)

As a man who’s Grandfather fought the Japs in the pacific, I wholeheartedly agree with you about Harry Truman.

My dad fought in Europe and was on his way to Japan.....thank God President Truman put an end to the war by dropping those bombs. Utmost respect to your grandfather and my dad and the thousands that fought and died.

Yes, oyster ice cream was served at that time. You can find a recipe online.
