Staff at Publishing house Hachette have threatened to quit unless the company cancels its association with JK Rowling and scraps plans to publish her new book because they argue the author is ‘transphobic’.

The Daily Mail reported that “Staff in the children’s department at Hachette announced they were no longer prepared to work on the book” over Rowling’s recent assertions that biological sex is real and that there are only two genders.

Looks like another AOC - Amazon moment.

If I were the publisher, this becomes a moment to affirm freedom of the press. "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."

I’m not sure about that. Some publisher will take her on, but the big ones will be terrified of becoming a target.

With the resources that Rowlings could put together, she could just start her own publishing house. Even cowardly investors would flock to this investment if they could keep their identities secret. Social justice warriors are hypocrites to the core and would gladly profit off of a "transphobic" author if they can keep their anonymity. They are loud and demanding when someone else's wealth is at risk.

The liberal elite in the world have to realize by now that the monster they created is about to overwhelm and consume them.

I know they would prefer to wait until they rid themselves of their orange menace before trying to regain control, but can they afford to allow this to grow unchecked any longer?

Agree with the complainers. Agree not to publish the book. Then announce that due to anticipated reduced book sales that the publisher will be laying off several personnel. Pick the complainers.

I wonder how many of these people turning on Rowling today were inspired to do well in school because they were big Harry Potter fans when they were kids?

I haven’t seen this much nerd rage since fans turned on George Lucas back in ‘99. But Cancel Culture adds an ideological twist to the rage.

Rowlings would be signed by another publisher in about 20 seconds if she were released. If the staff were released, I’m guessing it would take weeks or months for them to land new jobs.

There is probably a hundred publishers standing in line waiting for a chance to publish her books.

Well, let’s see if the publisher is willing to eat a breach of contract judgement in order to satisfy a few staffers’ temper tantrum.

“but the big ones will be terrified of becoming a target”

Probably, but whatever publisher picks up JK Rowling will pretty much instantly become a “big one”.

Rowling is a billionare. She can start her own publishing company and sell a million books.

Hmmm - Snowflakes, or Rowling? Snowflakes - Rowling?

This company would hurt if they lost her.

IF I was the CEO, I would simply say, “So quit already”. AND then, “IF any employee threatens to quit ever again, the employee will be discharged from their job & will leave with bad references.”

Hell, she could set up shop and print them herself.

She could buy out another publishing company AND pay half-a-dozen Hachette's best writers to join her.
