Like any disease, it started slowly.
The media’s first line of coronavirus attack were insinuations of xenophobia when the administration placed travel restrictions from China in January. After that, there was fretting from CNN and others that the coronavirus response team was just too white and too male.

I’ve ordered Chinese food a few times.
Honestly, going to Chinatown to spend the day, even if we’re told it’s not risky...it’s just not worth the chance.
but I figure the odds of getting it from eating food ordered from a local place are slim.

Here is the thing. The people at the restaurant are locals. They are fine. The problem is, they have relatives who are not and that's how the vector would hit.
I said early on "If this gets to Italy, I'm not eating at an authentic Italian place either" for exactly the same reason. The key word is authentic. Most local pizza shops are not Italians(or the family has been here 100 years) and often have Mexican cooks anyway.
No Di Parma Prosciutto for me for a while though!

You know I figured what are the odds of them having visited or been visited by folks in China.
But my friends with close ties to Italy go there four times a year and get visits four times a year.

Suddenly I’m not feeling so good...
I have a Chinese Co-worker. She was born and lived in Hong Kong for 20 years. She's been an American citizen for at least 25 years now. She hasn't been back to HK for at least 5 years.
Several weeks back a relative showed up who intends to stay here in the US until the WuHuFlu has subsided. This person is now living with her. This person would have been the vector into our company. It has not happened, so I think we're fine. My point is if anyone is going to bring it, it's relatives of people from the infected regions. This now includes Koreans, Iranians, Italians and Chinese.
At some point, it really won't matter because it's likely to be everywhere. For now though? We'll eat in.
