MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - Mississippi's special U.S. Senate election will get national attention as President Donald Trump holds a Mid-South rally Tuesday at the Landers Center in Southaven.
President Trump is stumping for Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. She's running in November to serve the final two years of retired Senator Thad Cochran's term.
Thousands of rally attendees will make their way into the Landers Center for Trump's second visit to Mississippi since his inauguration.
Oh man, we're excited! We are ready for the locals to see the President, says John Caldwell with the DeSoto County Republican Party. "He won't feel out of place in DeSoto County ,Mississippi. We love President Trump.
Everything is buzzing, says Kimberly Remak with the DeSoto County Republican Party. "This is such a historic moment for DeSoto County to have President Trump come.
DeSoto County Republicans are gushing with enthusiasm and anticipation as Southaven prepares to welcome the 45th President of the United States.
"You don't get the President of the United States every day in your community, so it's real exciting. We're ready, were grateful from him coming out to help our delegation, says Caldwell.
The President's rally in the Magnolia State comes as Republicans look to hold on to their narrow advantage in the Senate. The President supports and will rally Tuesday for incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith, one of four candidates in a special election next month. If no one gets at least half of the vote, there will be a November 27th runoff election between the top two votegetters.
"It's all about keeping the Republican majority. He's here to help Cindy Hyde-Smith. But to help Roger Wicker, Congressman Kelly, we've got to hold that Republican majority and he knows that, and he knows that Mississippi is going to be a key place to do that, says Caldwell. "If we go to sleep, we could be in trouble, we need to make sure Republicans come out and we can keep our majority."
Monday, organizers at the Landers Center continued their preparations with the White House.
"Sound and lights are going up. We've got rigorous stage hands. It really does have the feel of a show day, along that end. It's very exciting, stressful, absolutely, but fantastic team at Landers Center. We do these things all the time, says Landers Center Executive Director Todd Mastry. "Really, it's a lot, very similar to running a concert. There's a stage, there's sound and lights going up, so it kind of has the same feel."
Leave early, give yourself plenty of time for traffic to get through, says Mastry. Anyone that is coming early, hydrate yourselves. It may be a warm day outside."
President Trump will be the second sitting President to appear in the 18-year-old building, following George W. Bush's visit in 2003.
I think that he’s in Rochester, MN on Thursday.
Then about another 20 rallies through Election Day.
The 72-year-old President Trump is indefatigable. Hillary would be passed out by breakfast trying to keep up with him.
What a man. Maybe the best President in modern times. GO TRUMP GO

Ill be there. Weve got six tickets.
Great to know you will be there. Go early.
Some of our old stomping grounds too. Used to have a record shop in the Southhaven Mall (is that the name of it. My memory is getting bad).
Good for the President. However, one of the candidates he’s endorsing at this rally isn’t like him. She is the Establishment candidate instead of the Conservative Republican in an open primary special election.

So far I am still planning to vote for Chris McDaniel, as the governor should have named McDaniel to the unfinished term instead of Hyde/Smith, a former democrat who switched to get the rest of the term of Thud Cochran. If this was a nod to the democratic party in Mississippi, as Thad was often a border rider instead of a conservative. it is poorly timed.
Forgive my ignorance on the details of this MS race... Is Cindy Hyde-Smith running against both a democRAT *and* another Republican? Thanks...
Why is Trump endorsing a former democRAT?
I can’t figure that out, but he hasn’t paid much attention to Mississippi yet. We’re still losing jobs in our area, once a thriving city.
