PBS NEWSHOUR: Syndicated columnist Mark Shields and New York Times columnist David Brooks join Judy Woodruff to discuss the weeks news, .....
DAVID BROOKS: I think the Republicans are going to do very bad in the midterm, but not because of the tax bill...
So you can vote on a lot of things. In general, when you run up big deficits and give away back money to people, they like it. And people like me say, hey, you should worry about the deficits or you should worry about the distribution effects. .......
JUDY WOODRUFF: Well, you brought up the midterm elections. And thats what I want to ask you about.
But, David, your point is that this tax bill is not going to affect Republicans in the midterm that much, whatever
DAVID BROOKS: Who knows? The midterms are still a year away.
I think the reason people dont like the Republican Party is not because of the tax cut. Its because they dont like Donald Trump, they dont think theyre functional, for a zillion other reasons. .......
I think theyre in terrible shape..... Theres the thing called the generic ballot. Which party do you want to control, which party do you think usually, if one party is plus nine, theyre like due for a tidal wave of support. And the Democrats are plus 13 or 14. Thats just massive.
Now, were a year away, ....... it looks like a tidal wave election. If it was today, it would be a tidal wave election, and it looks the kind of elections where Democrats wouldnt only carry swing states, like maybe even Arizona, something like that, but states where you dont even imagine.

Keep on flapp’in your gums David — it appears that no one outside DC is listening.
The crazies are trying to convince Trump supporters that they’re disappointed ,LOL
Brooks has a crease on his brain.
McLame has disappointed me...Flake has disappointed me...a few others who call themselves "Republicans" have as well.
The passage of tax reform may be a positive sign. We'll see what happens from here.
How is it elitists are so completely out of touch with the people of this country?
David Brooks: "My Predictions Have Been Wrong Consistently," However Trump Will Underperform In Iowa
Disappointed? HellsBells I’m Frigg’n ecstatic! Trump is kick’ ass! Merry Christmas!!
I was just going to post the same! Took the words right out of my mouth!
Disappointed? I am THRILLED with Trump, and amazed he’s gotten as much done as he has.
Too early for such a Christmas wish. But, as a practical matter, I’m sure a lot of Trump voters will stay home if Trump gives illegal aliens amnesty or doesn’t build the wall. I think those two points are make or break for many of us.
I think I’m going to take a pretty good hit with the new tax law. But on the other hand my IRA is taking off like a rocket. MAGA ON!
President Trump has never disappointed me - he is the greatest President in my lifetime! I will enthusiastically vote all things Trump!

Ditto!
Both of them!
He could be right. By the time the mid-terms get here there is bound to be at least 6, maybe 7 defectors, to turn the tide.
You do know I was being sarcastic?
Everybody is saying Merry Christmas again. Just like Trump said we would!
These guys have been “Leonard’s Losers” since Ronald Reagan was elected. They are living proof that America is the greatest nation on the earth! In no other country could they eke out a living as a janitor (no offense to the professional custodians of the world).
Yeah, I was piling on! :)
Cocaine does encourage whistling while walking past the graveyard.
So far, Trump voters are just not all that disappointed with the performance of President Donald J. Trump. Sure, he does sort of stir the adrenaline switch a little hard at times, but he has been delivering more times than not.
And who knows what wars and conflicts he has averted by sometimes bold action and swift decisions? Say what you will about The Donald, his adversaries, for the most part, and no matter what bluster they may put up, really do rein back and display a little native caution when Trump comes out with weaponry aimed and primed to fire.
Ned Pepper taunts, “bold talk for a one-eyed fat man.”
Rooster Cogburn rides right into the fray.
He’s delusional as usual.
Fake news.
