Leaders of both major parties are wrong to think of the 2016 election as some kind of fluke. I believe a political realignment is underway, and those who fail to discern its outlines could end up powerless and irrelevant.
With all respect to Hillary Clinton, her newly published memoir, "What Happened," doesn't really tell what happened. It is perhaps inevitable that she would focus on the daily twists and turns of the campaign. It is understandable that she would blame James Comey, Vladimir Putin and the media for damaging her prospects -- and that she would downplay her own strategic and tactical missteps.
But take a step back and look at the election through a wider lens. Clinton, with all her vast experience and proven ability, was defeated by Donald Trump, a reality television star who had never before run for office, displayed near-total ignorance of the issues, broke every rule of political rhetoric and was caught on videotape bragging of how he sexually assaulted random women by grabbing their crotches.....

YES!!!!!!!!!!
It is impossible, because that isn't what happened. Trump never assaulted anyone nor did he brag about doing it. Robinson doesn't do himself any favors in terms of clarity of analysis by perpetuating the lying party line on this one. But even a blind partisan like Robinson can smell it a little. Yes, both parties have departed from their bases, and yes, both Trump and Sanders showed everyone but a total establishment idiot that it was so. But Robinson is mistaken in hoping that the Dems have moved anywhere but further left. The Republicans appear to be wandering around like lost sheep, frightened to embrace the victor, terrified at the notion that they might actually have to act on the wishes of their constituents and against the vested interests of the Beltway swamp. They have the option to embrace success, at least. It looks a lot bleaker for the Dems.
” was defeated by Donald Trump, a reality television star who had never before run for office”
He’d had dry-runs in previous election cycles.
>>broke every rule of political rhetoric and was caught on videotape bragging of how
...she used the US embassy in Libya to have the head of state captured as a POW in yet another undeclared war, tortured, abused, and murdered
“WE came, WE saw, HE DIED! hahahahahaha”
What is he even talking about?
There is so much lying going on
By the way, just one point:
“The Trump and Sanders campaigns revealed that there are large numbers of voters whose views are not being reflected by Democratic or Republican orthodox positions.”
We are in the middle of an invasion. In a land of 310,000,000 people, how is it that we still have to hear pundits say there are 11,000,000 illegals when in any shopping trip either in NY or Texas I’m hearing pushy people yelling in other languages?
While I believe the author is for Hillary, based on:
The fact that he works in media (almost all our media were in the tank for Hillary)
And the fact he so blatantly is anti-Trump. Yet he says some things which are very insightful. He correctly identifies that there are very few politicians at the moment, who are not sold out on global trade (in either party).
I think that will be an issue which increasingly we see in the way people vote.
Trump won the election, because of that.
Had the election been between Trump and Sanders, I believe Sanders might just be president right now...
Trump I highly commend you for running, for standing up for working Americans, for saying the things you say, and for a million other reasons.
WELL DONE.
But remember the issues you ran on. I think the global trade mess, is very important. I think you ran on that important issue. I think you won, because of that issue.
But I don’t believe you have acted yet, upon that issue.
Healthcare is not why you were elected. You were elected, I believe, by Republicans and democrats, who are tired of seeing everyone in both political parties selling out America, globally.
BOTH PARTIES.
Trump you really, really, really need to deliver on this important issue.
Or Sanders and his ilk, will eventually take over.
He did not win the election, but there were a lot of very motivated people supporting him, who were pushed out of the way by Hillary.
That is why Trump won.
He really needs to deliver, on this campaign issue.
>> Clinton, with all her vast experience and proven ability
Experience and proven ability at lying?
That’s about it.
“What difference does it make at this time anyhoo?”
Looks like a typical leftist hatemonger to me. Was there any time that this person had credibility of some sort?
What shocked me was the number of women who are wearing head-scarfs! It seemed like every other woman was wearing head-scarfs. This is in West Houston!
Trump never should have won the Republican nomination over a field that included so many talented politicians.
This would have been right, except that everyone in the "talented politicians" list was pro-Amnesty, and republicans mostly support the rule of law. I assume the Swamp has been bribed to betray real Americans, and most republican voters made the same assumption.
Once Trump built his real estate empire, he needed to make his brand a household word among more than the people who bragged about staying in one of his hotels or living in one of his condos or eating in one of his restaurants or visiting one of his resorts or playing on one of his golf courses.
He used ownership in beauty contests, connections with wrestling, prize fighting and finally, the ownership, production and starring role in a business-themed reality show. He always made sure his name was on his accomplishments and, in the TV shows, he was also the star. To underscore it all, he wrote books that put forth his philosophy.
By 2014, everyone knew who he was, what he stood for and had watched his management style up close and personal. It was then simply a matter of finding a political vehicle.
He made himself the issue/subject at every turn. The American people knew who he was, probably more so than any candidate ever before.
He’s been running for this position for a long time. He’s succeeded at every facet of his life, even triumphing after spectacular and very public financial failure. He ran the table in the primaries because he understood his opponents and the American people, while the opposition didn’t understand the essential Trump, The Winnah, or the American people.
We understood him because he he made sure of it. And he made doubly sure we had no illusions about any of the other candidates or any past or present office holder.
The story is, when he consulted Melania on his run, she told him to remember that he would win. He always has and he always does. He’s been running for over a decade.
Still in the DunkTank 'With Her'
gene robinson is on a mental par with other great afro-American thinkers, like congress critters, hank johnson {guam capsize} the two lee sisters{barbara and sheila jackson} and maxine waters.
That is certainly true in the Rust Belt states for sure... and elsewhere...
Though I suspect that is easier said than done...
One thing that troubles me is he is openly supporting Strange over Moore in Bama, by all accounts Strange is all for cheap labor. That is 180 degrees from Trumps position yet he sends his VP down there... WHY??? that makes ZERO sense...
Maybe because Moore is some kind of religious nut job, I’m not sure, just what I have read on here, thats really the only reason I can think of..
They're all over. And they're not included among the "11 million illegals." Most of them are here legally, and they continue to pour in. At this rate, many American cities and suburbs will become like London, where they appear to be the majority.
and was caught on videotape bragging of how he sexually assaulted random women by grabbing their crotches.....”
As far as I know this never happened.
