President Donald Trump sparked a barrage of Republican outrage on Tuesday after he blamed both sides for the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia including from House Speaker Paul Ryan.
We must be clear, Ryan said after Trumps remarks. White supremacy is repulsive. This bigotry is counter to all this country stands for. There can be no moral ambiguity.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said on Twitter, Mr. President, you can't allow #WhiteSupremacists to share only part of blame. Added Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.): This is simple: we must condemn and marginalize white supremacist groups, not encourage and embolden them.
Many other Republicans also slammed the remarks Trump made at a news conference in New York in which he doubled down on his initial reaction to the violence that broke out over the weekend at a white supremacist rally where one woman was killed when a car rammed into counter-protesters.
I think theres blame on both sides, Trump told reporters Tuesday at Trump Tower. I have no doubt about it.
Republicans have often been critical of Trump in the past, but the rebuke from members of his own party to his Charlottesville response was swifter and more widespread than perhaps at any point in his presidency
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), now in rehabilitation after being shot during a June congressional baseball practice, responded on Twitter: I was clear about this bigotry & violence over the weekend and I'll repeat it today: We must defeat white supremacy and all forms of hatred.
Also on Twitter, Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.) said: @POTUS must stop the moral equivalency! AGAIN, white supremacists were to blame for the violence in #Charlottesville.
And Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) added: We are Americans from all walks of life, working towards the American Dream. Nowhere in that dream is there room for racism.
A spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Kentucky Republican had no new comment in response to Trumps remarks Tuesday.
Democrats also responded with outrage.
In a statement, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said that by not taking sides, Trump had clearly shown what side hes on.
When David Duke and white supremacists cheer your remarks, youre doing it very, very wrong, Schumer said. Great and good American presidents seek to unite, not divide. Donald Trumps remarks clearly show he is not one of them.
Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) said on Twitter that Trump is not my president.
As a Jew, as an American, as a human, he wrote, words cannot express my disgust and disappointment.
My G-d when did these GOP cowards ever demand that Obama attack the Black racist, antisemitic, Black Nationalist Farrakhan?? (whose organization is bigger than all the “White Supremacist groups combined) NEVER!!!!
>Ryan is a PC Democrat in everything but name.
Someone should ask Ryan when he become a Communist sympathizer and friend to the alt left.
They aren’t dupes. This is who they really are.
The pacifists will probably want Man O War’s statue in Kentucky removed.
This type of thing could be endless.
.
They say white supremacists were responsible, but they weren’t. We can’t have reality. These republicans are fools, cowards and traitors.
You should be congratulating President Trump. He is telling the truth.
Dolts
I agree. Now I'd like to see Ryan doing something about totally destroying everything to do with Democrat Sen. KKK Robert Byrd.
In other words, Foamboy et al are showing their bigotry of low expectations.
Or gypsies, tramps and thieves, like the song.
Ding, ding, ding - we have a thread winnah!
Ryan stands with Antifa???
David Duke is latching on to Trump. Duke may support Trump but Trump doesn’t support Duke.
These scumbags are really pushing it. We should have destroyed EVERY damn Communist and Socialist in the 50's when we had a chance. Now these groups are right out in the open and wish to overthrow the government and destroy America.I am not surprised that the Republican Party has become nothing more than an extension of the DNC run by Obama,Clinton and Soros.
You know what? You are implying Trump a racist. If we were in the same room right now one of would be leaving on a stretcher. FOAD.
Only reason I don’t want that is 1) I want Trumps agenda and appointees passed and 2) Trump WILL be impeached if that happens - make no mistake.
If they lose congress the bad ones will still be there...I hope they win so the voters can see how useless and anti-American they really are...
Doesn't trouble me at all...Duke is entitled to the same rights as every other American...I'll bet there's even a couple of Democrats somewhere who are endorsing Trump's comments...
So you and BLM and Antifa disagree with that, eh???
Trump has no control over what that moron says (and that moron is likely funded by people like or including Soros). And the fascist/communist left is 10x more dangerous than the already ridiculously marginalized neo-nazi group.
RINOs live in total fear of the media. Trump is a fighting general. Fear never wins... Trump did!
