Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) ripped President Trump for his criticism of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on Friday, saying that if Trump were to try to fire Rosenstein and special counsel Robert Mueller, Congress would unite to stop him.
"It has become clear that President Trump believes that he has the power to fire anyone in government he chooses and for any reason, including special counsel Robert Mueller, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee said in a statement. That is not how the rule of law works, and Congress will not allow the President to so egregiously overstep his authority.
"If President Trump were to try to replicate [former President Richard] Nixons Saturday Night Massacre by firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in addition to Mueller, Congress must unite to stop him without respect to party, and for the sake of the nation.
Schiffs statement follows reports that Trump is under investigation for obstruction of justice by Mueller as part of his broader investigation into potential ties between Trumps campaign and Russian officials.
Trump fired back at those reports on Twitter Friday, seeming to attack Rosenstein. He tweeted that he was being investigated for firing former FBI Director James Comey by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director, an apparent reference to Rosenstein.

Schiff said Thursday that the House Intelligence Committee should include an investigation into whether Trump obstructed justice when he fired Comey as part of its broader investigation into Russia interference in the 2016 presidential election.
I think it needs to be part of the investigation, he said. Congress has to get to the bottom of whether anybody is interfering or obstructing any investigation in any way.
The rats speak like this because the pubs are in collusion with them!! Don’t doubt me!
Technically, the President could fire every worker in the entire Executive branch.
Does Schiff play baseball?
Deep-State morons: Trump is the unitary executive. All executive authority is vested in him alone, according to the Constitution. But I guess since Democrats are attempting to assassinate Republican congressmen now, we are beyond the Constitution. Suits me fine. It protects them from us.
I say again ... 100% bull Schiff ! ...
Maybe Mr. Schiff needs to read the Constitution? The President can fire anyone in the executive branch that he pleases for any or no reason at all. The only thing Congress can do about it is to remove him from office through impeachment and trial in the Senate.
I am sick of this little bug eyed tool of the Ukraine war industry
“”Are you saying that Schiff is a Flake?””
AZ has two of them in the senate so take your pick.
Remember how they would use the excuse illegal aliens were just doing jobs Americans wouldn’t or didn’t want to?
This sounds like President Trump is doing the jobs congress won’t or doesn’t want to.
In both cases those jobs needed to be done.
“”Schiff said Thursday that the House Intelligence Committee should include an investigation into whether Trump obstructed justice when he fired Comey “”
WOW - what brain power that man has. Let’s have ANOTHER investigation into an investigation. That way, we can avoid doing the job we were sent here to do...
Does that include Lynch, the Clintons, and Comey?
“The Socialist Democrat Party of America”
“”Does Schiff play baseball?””
Don’t know but saw some pictures on TV last night of Weiner in uniform at a previous year’s game. Wouldn’t have considered him “baseball material” but guess he’s a (man) of many talents...
I’ve heard all about the unity between parties at the game last night but I swear I heard a report while the game was on that the Dems were on one side of the field (guess which one) and the Republicans on the other... Wonder if that is true. Some unity it if is.
Well, if you call someone a “McCain” that would be the lowest insult you could level at them.
The President may Constitutionally fire any employee of the Executive Branch. Congress has zero Constitutional authority to forbid or prevent it.
Impeachment—or the threat thereof—is the only Constitutional way Congress might prevent a President from firing any member of the Executive Branch. But if the President does so anyway, impeachment and removal from office is the only recourse Congress Constitutionally may use to deal with it.
In practice, Congress can impeach any holder of any Constitutional office for any reason it chooses, and then the Senate can vote to remove that person from office for whatever reason it may choose. Or not. So far, in the case of Presidents, it has always chosen not to do so.
Oh, this ahole again.
He needs to persistently criticize Meuller telling him he should recuse himself immediately. The more time that goes by more people forget. The Dems want him to fire these Bozos so they can start another investigation. Until the republicans stand up and fight for him his hands are somewhat tied.
Typical stupid democrat fraud. The Constitution grants no authority to either the Legislative or the Judicial branch of government to interfere in or supercede the authority of the Executive branch.
Trump Has absolute authority over all offices of the executive branch of government. He hires and fires at will. He has constitutional authority to direct the activities of the FBI. He may, at his pleasure, initiate or shut down any and all investigations whether criminal or civil. Within the Executive branch of government it is impossible, legally, for the president to be found culpable of interfering in any matter. ACTING ON HIS cONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY IS NOT ILLEGAL.
Well little Adam you ain’t got any say in the matter
