In the wake of the Republican failure to repeal the Affordable Care Act on Friday, leading figures in the progressive wing of the Democratic Party are rallying behind a single-payer health insurance and a raft of other bold reforms.
These lawmakers and grassroots leaders have long believed that the problems plaguing the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, are rooted in the original health care laws attempt to accommodate, rather than gradually replace, the private, for-profit health insurance system.
Now that efforts to eliminate the law wholesale are effectively dead, they are again arguing that the best way to improve the countrys health care system is to confront the power of corporate health care provider more directly.
We have got to have the guts to take on the insurance companies and the drug companies and move forward toward a Medicare-for-all, single-payer program, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said on MSNBCs All In with Chris Hayes on Friday night. And Ill be introducing legislation shortly to do that.
Even before the Republicans withdrew their Obamacare repeal bill, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), the deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee and a close Sanders ally, previewed this message at a rally in defense of Obamacare on Thursday....

all going by the plan....
The opening of negotiation.
The plan....all going back to 2008...was to eventually get us to single-payer.
It is the only plan that would deliver reasonable cost healthcare for the mass public. The fact that various commercially-run hospitals will downsize and limit their services if pushed into this gimmick, has yet to dawn on people.
But if you want reasonably priced health care options, this is the only road possible. I think Ryan and the top tier of GOP leadership are linked to the Medicare-for-all deal, and that’s why no one made a big serious push for this draft law.
How about free speech for all? I am sick of my money for my speech paid to sunsidize these brats voting to trash talk me and my origins.
Germany has a dual system. one is gov care and the other is private. People choose accordingly. Private is better money and service for single people, punlic is generally better for large families. Notwithstanding America should not have such socialism, that demand of single payer is ridiculously asking for skyrocketing health care costs.
Bernie should push “Summer house on a lake for everyone!”
Once health insurance employee premiums portion paid by the employee began to exceed federal wage tax withholding, the government was going to go into the healthcare business.
Correction. Congress and the politically connected will be exempt.
This will fail just as badly as Ryancare (a.k.a. Obamacare 2.0).
Everybody already has medicare. But no benefits until they pay in.
Typical thieving Democrat, you paid medicare for 40 yrs and Dems want to rip you off.
Give a check for 40 yrs payments plus interest, first.
Democrats hurt people. It is what they do.
“Free” stuff for the masses: it’s the Amerikan way.
Not new.
Fake healthcare.
FAKE Single Payer. Do not buy Democrat LIES!
It is TAX Payer.
Santa Sanders giving everything for free still.
The purpose of Obamacare was for it to fail and become single payer. This is part 2.
A political ploy from the psycho left.
On the German health care topic....if you make under X-amount a year (I think it’s near 50,000 Euro), then you have no choice, it’ll be public (mandatory) insurance. What you get is simple three-star affordable healthcare. Rehab for physical injuries is hit and miss....the best drugs won’t be prescribed under their cheaper drug plan, but you can buy them via cash yourself....and hospital situation may require you to be in a two, or four, or six-person room (depending on the hospital).
Yeah, and we’ll get the rich to pay for it blah blah stuff.
