Democrats dont know how long theyll be able to keep up the pace of protests against President Donald Trump and theyre worried Trump and his team are counting on them to run out of energy before the White House does.
Two weeks into the Trump administration, party leaders have already reached a frantic, fevered pitch, throwing around talk of constitutional crisis and raising the specter of impeachment.
The thing that we dont want to do is anesthetize the public with dozens and dozens of press conferences and marquee events, said Seattle Mayor Ed Murray. Then itll just become background noise. Im worried thats exactly what theyre trying to maneuver us into doing.
Democrats are having as much trouble defusing Trump now that hes in the White House as they did all through last years campaign. Murray said hes seen neither a clear understanding among leaders in Washington of how far left their base has careened in just the past few weeks nor the emergence of any infrastructure among progressive groups for turning whats going on in the streets into concerted opposition.
The question is: How do we respond beyond that? Murray said. Im a little worried that were not there.
House Democrats head to their retreat in Baltimore this week trying to come up with an answer.
Some people on social media are already saying, Yes! Impeach the guy. No. I think any time youre talking about impeachment, which is historically extremely significant, that is not something you do on a whim, said Rep. Joaquín Castro (D-Texas), explaining that he used the word himself earlier in the week as a warning of where things might go. I think our response should be reasonable, it should not be exaggerated but we fundamentally have to protect the integrity of the republic.
Some of his colleagues will boycott Trumps address before a joint session of Congress at the end of the month. Others are planning to go but come up with a way to protest that makes a splash. Theyre trolling, referring to President Bannon in the hopes of goading Trump into sidelining Steve Bannon, his chief strategist, if he thinks people are seeing him as a puppet.
I plan on being there at this point in time, I think its part of my responsibility, said Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. Im there to witness and hear what he has to say, and respond in kind.
We are going to continue to be the bulwark against the man. Were going to stop him at every opportunity we have, Crowley added. This is going to be a gift that keeps on giving in some respects.
Democrats are mobilizing around Republican members' town halls to protest Obamacare repeal. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) is demanding that Mar-a-Lago, Trump's exclusive club in Florida, release its members list.
Some are trying other strategies of chipping away at Trumps authority. Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) says hes looking to hit the House staffers who worked with the White House on crafting the travel ban and signed nondisclosure agreements that he says made them into employees of the administration too. Sounds like double-dipping to me, Gutiérrez said in an interview off the House floor on Wednesday. There might be a law against that.
But Democrats readily acknowledge Trump won last year in part by sparking so many simultaneous outrages among the left that they all blended together. Trumps White House so far is following that model.
I dont know whether we can count on him to do that for the full four years, but if he keeps it up, folks arent going to go away, said Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy, chairman of the Democratic Governors Association. Quite frankly, this is Vietnam at its height. The only thing that resolved Vietnam was America leaving Vietnam. I suspect in some ways, the only thing thats going to resolve this is when Donald Trump leaves Washington.
Conviction in the Senate requires 2/3 vote. Never going to happen.

The Democrats are a party of crazy hippies, anarchists, etc.
I lived through Vietnam as a kid but I sure don’t dwell on it. The Democrats always circle around to the Civil Rights movement and Vietnam because they felt they were on the right side of history in that era.
As with any such statement, that remains to be seen.

Newsflash; it already has become background noise - a really annoying one.
Democrats are having as much trouble defusing Trump now that he’s in the White House as they did all through last year’s campaign.
Newsflash 2; you aren't supposed to be trying to diffuse the President of the United States idiots. At least not unless he does something heinous like trying to push a mandatory pay healthcare plan without the other party's involvement in any way, then yeah, speak up and do what you can dems. Sheesh. Where do these people rent their brain cells? They're way too tired for use; try leasing maybe or something!
They anesthetized the public long before the election. The rioting, beatings, screaming, vandalism, arson, and attempted murders have not caused the public to turn against Trump.
Being evil, totalitarian, No Borders, baby-murderers, they don’t have an attractive message. Just ask Jeb! Bush, who murdered Terri Schiavo.
I can’t use a misspelled name because it is spelled correctly on my card. Way back in 78 my wife and I decided we should be come participating citizens and sign up for a Party. The local area was 90% Democrat in those days (the ratio has since reversed) and we flipped a nickel to determine who would be the Democrat and who would be the Republican. Back then the governor was a Democrat as was the legislature. Republicans didn’t have any local/state primaries hereabouts. I enjoyed writing my views to the governor’s and other officials’ offices and start out with, “As a Registered Democrat...” Wife would write and get no answer. Sometimes I would get a phone call for a chat from an aide in the Senator’s office or from the Representative in Tallahassee himself and always got something in the mail, once an invite to come on up to Tally for a day watch my reps work. They would even buy me lunch.
The Democrats have another big problem , most of them are older than dirt and need plenty of naps
Every protest and obstruction makes another hole in the Democrat heart.
LMAO, love the Twilight Zone photo!!!
Yep. He’s one of the Dems who had the now-fired muslim IT guys working for him. Wonder what info they have?
Dhimmicraps are scum and should be hunted for sport.
“The Democrats always circle around to the Civil Rights movement and Vietnam because they felt they were on the right side of history in that era.”
How could the hippies possibly be on the right side of history when their President (JFK) started the conflict, then
ramped it up (LBJ) to 700,000 or so US military folks? The only significant thing the Republicans did about the VN conflict was to end it (Nixon).
Great ideas. Trump and Milo seem to be doing their parts.
Now we need some ideas that Joe Six-Pack FReeper can do.
Maybe trolling Democrat sites to remind them they are losing?
Some FReeper research into Soros organizations?
He should move to Cuber as Raul’long lost nephew and take over the Revolution.
VN was a French problem we took over.
