While I like the idea, there is no way Cruz can get 60 votes to be confirmed. While a good majority of the GOPe would vote to confirm just to get ride of him, it would never be enough to get to sixty with all the dems in opposition.
After Harry Reid only 50 are needed.
My wife and I were discussing this. She said that Cruz has the reputation of being the most unliked man in the Senate. So you are a Senator. Do you vote to get rid of him forever, ie. confirm to the Supreme Court, or do you vote to keep him in the Senate with you for the foreseeable future? I think a few Democrats might vote to get rid of him.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe I read on FR that a simple minority would be needed to confirm.
The ‘nuclear option’ is Harry Reid’s ONLY gift to The Republic, and it was never intended to be a gift! The adults now will start cleaning up the mess the children have left behind. MAGA!

The sixty votes only apply now to get the confirmation vote,
that is assuming the dems would filabuster the appointment.

No appointee from Trump will get 60 votes. It’s going to be 51 and McConnel will use the Reid rule and go nuclear.
