We know Ted Cruz's father was a Canadian citizen when Ted was born and there is good reason to think Ted's mom was too. Technically without a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA), and none has been presented, Ted Cruz is not even a citizen of these United States. He is a illegal immigrant. You would think a "brilliant" lawyer like Ted might be a little curious about his citizen status.

Actually, no "good reason" at all -- only uncorroborated rumors. You're making things up.

Cruz, of course, knew that he was born in Canada. But Harvard ed or not, he had no particular reason to be familiar with Canadian citizenship law, and would not necessarily have been aware of his standing -- which, in any case, was legally irrelevant.
