Personally, I think Newt talked himself out of a spot in the Trump administration.
Do you really think Trump wants to take away Newt’s free speech? Newt said what he thought but he also added a little zinger...that it could be true that the judge is biased. Can you say La Raza?
I don’t see Trump as wanting to share the throne. I am now doubting Newt’s motive and am not as enthusiastic about him “helping” Trump as I was before Newt thought he needed to discipline him. Loyalty is #1 with Trump, Newt is on shaky ground if he wants to “shadow” or “correct” him.
Interesting theory. Haven’t many of us here been calling Valerie Garrett the “real president” all along?
Gingrich is too wishy-washy to be the power behind the throne. One day he’s impeaching Clinton; the next day he’s playing kissy-face with his Nazi girlfriend - Pelosi.
I don’t know... the cynic in me says it’s some sort of calculated game and that Newt is really on Trumps team. Time will tell.
I think the writer is over-thinking it.
Newt is Newt. He will tell you what he thinks whether it hurts him or helps him, he is too old to care at this point. I do think he would like to be there in Trump’s inner circle and if he is there, he will say what he thinks whether anyone likes it or not. He wants it, but not enough to be anyone’s toady.
If Trump is smart, and he is, he will want people around him who can take orders, but he will also want people around him who will give their unvarnished opinion when asked.
Newt can step in it from time to time. I think that’s all this is. Maybe he got the word that as veep he’s out.
I hope so, Newt would be a LOUSY choice. I love Newt, mostly, but he can stay or go, matters not.
Lol...the Liberal Left Loon Federalist...not to be mistaken for anything resembling Federism. The Federalist are NeverTrumpers.
IMO Newt is by far the bast choice for VP. His ego matches Trump’s so I would expect they would understand each other and be able to get along...if nothing else they could commiserate about their bad marital choices
Really sorry,Newt, but you bit off more than you can chew. Consider being on the ticket a thing of the past. You shot yourself by joining in with the RINOS .
GO TRUMP! Go Duncan Hunter. Go Jeff Sessions.
Trump should never pick Newt.
Newt will stab him in the back at the first opportunity.
It’s just Newt being Newt. Always gotta be the center of attention.
Say what? Trump isn’t the type to abide by sting-pullers that would make him their puppet - whole article is mush.
My take on this is that Trump...no matter what you feel about him....is not dumb or an amateur. Everything he says and does is for a reason.
I think he purposely said the things, about the judge, without baking down... to find out what those he might want for VP or cabinet say about it?
All along this has happened over and over and he came out on top. I see a pattern for him doing this and still winning. I think he is a master at this whole thing and it takes the rest of us to finally realize it.
Note: The Federalist was clearly for Ted Cruz in the primaries, but the founder Ben Domenech would not join The Never Trump movement. However, the site became filled with Never Trumpers. Many were just trying to fight off Trump to get Cruz to win like Mary Katherine Ham, who left Hot Air to The Federalist in 2015, but it failed. So, just like American Thinker, they are lukewarm on Trump. The site is pretty new by conservative standards. Though sites pop up and many implode monthly, especially with people trying to bash or defend Trump on the right. Majority of The Federalist authors, contributors and creators came from Townhall.
