The Declaration of Independence came under attack from an unlikely quarter—a state legislator.
Louisiana lawmaker Barbara Norton (D-Shreveport), argued that America’s founding document was racist during debate on a bill requiring public school students in the state to recite the Declaration of Independence daily, Fox & Friends reported Saturday.
“For the Declaration of Independence only Caucasians (were) free,” Norton, who is black, said Wednesday during the debate on the floor of the Louisiana House of Representatives. “And for you to bring a bill to require that our children will recite the Declaration of Independence I think it’s a little bit unfair.”
Rep. Valarie Hodges (R-Denham Springs) shelved the bill before lawmakers could vote on the proposal, which she sponsored. The measure would have required public school students in fourth through sixth grade to recite a passage from the Declaration of Independence....

I thought the same thing in the early days of the Duke lacrosse case in March 2006. Yet long after the credibility of false accuser Crystal Mangum was destroyed, Mike Nifong won 95% of the black vote in the Nov 2006 election in Durham.
Blacks overwhelmingly wanted those innocent white boys locked away in a North Carolina state prison.

I grew up in Detroit, and attended Detroit Public Schools when they actually functioned, and we had to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day.
Lawdy. We need a ‘declaration of independence’ from viewing her face.
Like every other race, a lot of them are dumber than a box of rocks. Unlike every other race, Blacks have been raised with the idea that they are oppressed, no matter how much privilege they attain. Put the two together and the resulting arrogance and hatred can melt steel - without them ever truly realizing the staggering harm they're doing.
Blacks in America who call all whites racists are indulging in the same incivility as those they accuse. By doing so, they have stereotyped whites to have a common character flaw. That would be the same as saying all Black men are obsessed with sex. Of course that would be racist. And blacks who call all whites racists are, themselves, racists. Barbara Norton is a racist and is too stupid to realize it.
I wish blacks who indulge in their racist thinking would get as much social disapproval as any other person. Giving them a free pass on it is allowing their disrespect in other areas.
Perhaps she needs to be sent back to Africa...

This nitwit fails to understand that the ideals so eloquently espoused by white men in our founding documents are precisely why her black ass isn’t still picking cotton. It was these documents that rebellious slaves and civil rights leaders pointed to, saying, yes! Yes! This is the highest of human hearts’ desire! We want in on this!
It was precisely those documents that CONTRADICTED slavery. Ultimately, slavery could not stand in the face of the stark truths therein.
Maybe somebody should point out to this fool how many times Martin Luther King quoted the Declaration of Independence.
