I like the way he focused on the role of law. North Carolina enacted a law, and now "they're paying a big price, and there's a lot of problems." Law wasn't needed, because: "There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate, there has been so little trouble." There was already a social adjustment that accommodated people who needed to be accommodated.

Asked whether he would let Caitlyn Jenner, a trans woman, use the bathroom of her choice at Trump Tower, he said he would. He added, "There's a big move to create new bathrooms. Problem with that is … first of all, I think that would be discriminatory in a certain way. It would be unbelievably expensive for businesses and for the country. Leave it the way it is."

He was clear, practical, and sensible. He didn't go into impugning anyone on either side but saw it in terms of economics and law — and by law, I mean the limits of law, where it should end and where social etiquette works.

ADDED: Trump seems to be letting his roots grow out. Can we expect to see him with a fully white head of hair by the time the election rolls around? The location of the white part now gives some clues as to the directionality of the combover. This issue is not just bathrooms, because when the mentally ill man gets to use the bathrooms of women, he also gets to use the changing rooms, showers, locker rooms, saunas.

To compound the problem, the Department of Justice leaned on a public school district with threat of withdrawing funds because a transgender (mentally ill boy) wanted to use the girls’ locker rooms. They let him use a stall with curtain in the locker room, but he didn’t want to be treated differently. He sued and the federal government sided with him that he had a right to stand naked with a penis in front of girls and see them naked in order to feel like a girl.

I forgot the thread, but some article had pointed out a reasonable problem with men’s and women’s restrooms. Simply put, if somebody needs assistance with using a restroom, small children or someone in a wheelchair as examples, and the caregiver is of the opposite sex, then men’s and women’s restrooms become obstacles. That said, I don’t see any quick, practical remedies to the situation.

Yes. In the last year, my 87 year old Mom broke her hip and her wrist. I like to get her out of the house, but what if she needs a potty? She's not wheel chair bound, but I don't want her falling in some public restroom.

I am not 100% sure that is the case anymore.

If you have a guy who for whatever reason believes he is a woman, and has taken measures to assume that identity, and that guy goes into the ladies room to use it and for no other reason, I’m not sure that sets off all sorts of alarm bells anymore.

For instance, if Bruce Gender went into the ladies room somewhere, I’m pretty sure everything would be okay.

But, on the other hand, if you have a perverted sex criminal invading ladies rooms in drag or not in drag, I think perverted sex criminal is going to be in heap big trouble.

Like I said in other posts, I am old fashioned and traditional. I prefer ladies and mens room designations.

But I am not sure this current situation is as big a deal as some may think.

People are fully capable of committing crimes in these private rooms even now.

I don’t know. I think the jury is out on that at this time.

Since you apparently don’t know, let me explain what a stall consists of:

The walls are approximately an inch thick. They are situated at approximately a 6-1/2 foot height, with about one foot of crawl space underneath. The gaps between the walls are wide enough that, if someone is trying, they can see about anything they would like to see. And don’t get me started on the locks that don’t work half the time.

By the way, women are NOT exposed to full grown-grown men every day in that way and you know it!

As far as mace and tasters, they’d better hope that’s all that happens to them if one is found in the ladies’ room with me. I’ll consider the man is up to no good and will shoot first and ask questions later.

Trump needs to try and not get bogged down on these kind of Social Questions. After the Maelstrom with Chris Matthews on the Abortion question I think he has to steer a course around those kinds of things so that he stay on message.

Frankly I worry less on Social Issues as I think we need to focus on the Big Picture, the economy, the debt, the deficit, and health care costs. Otherwise Social issues will be the least of our worries. Surviving will.
