Conventions were held in every Georgia Congressional district last week to choose 42 of the states 76 delegates to the Republican National Convention. Each district choses three delegates.
In the Third District, which includes Coweta, Trump won overwhelmingly in the Presidential Preference Primary. He also overwhelmingly won Georgia. But Saturday, Ted Cruz supporters overwhelmingly were named delegates at conventions around the state.
Though many of the delegates chosen Saturday are supporters of Cruz, they still have to vote for Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention on the first ballot. Under Republican party rules, the delegates are free to vote for anyone after the first ballot.
Georgias rules call for delegates to be bound for the first two votes. Trump supporter Jackson Turner of LaGrange said that state law actually requires it, and that he will take action to swear out warrants against any delegate who doesnt remain true to Trump on the second ballot.
Third District Chairman Dale Jackson, one of the three delegates elected Saturday, said that there is some debate about that. It really depends on who is reading the rules. There are a lot of different opinions out there.
I believe there is a state law that has been broken on numerous occasions and has never been challenged, Jackson said.
The other two delegates are Denise Ognio of Peachtree City and Katie Frost of Newnan, both Cruz supporters. Jackson said he is not committed to any particular candidate.
The convention process begins with precinct mass meetings in each county. Delegates are then elected to the county convention. From there, delegates are elected to the district convention.
Probably 80 percent of the district convention delegates were Cruz supporters, Jackson said.
As far as I know there was not one single Trump supporter out there [as a delegate to the district convention] that left feeling like that their voice wasnt heard or that any rules were not followed. They just didnt have as many votes, Jackson said.
Look for a story on the convention in Wednesdays Newnan Times-Herald.
Trump winning in the south spoke volumes and loudly.
What did he do to stop the barrage of illegals? I only saw photos of Cruz and Beck welcoming them. And I saw what I consider trickery with his gang of 8 shennanigans.
I think he sold his soul to the globalists to feed his ambiion.
I live in the Pacific Northwest and am shocked at how this country is changing...and not even the Mexicans - many of whom at good workers ....but the Muslims who apparently are here on welfare.
I’m not voting for someone whose ambition exceeds his principles.
It begs the question - who are the cruz delegates really loyal to? Nothing like the smell of the GOPe/RNC to fouls things up.
I was there....this is the real truth
The story you will hear from the cruz crew is... Oh poor Trump he was out- maneuvered and now trump is crying, he doesn’t understand the rules, has no ground game, cruz has the ground game, what a cry baby, if Trump can’t win delegates how can he run the country bla bla bla bla bla bla bla.....they don’t want you to know the truth!
Trump won the state and our district....the VOTERS did you hear me the VOTERS gave Trump 2 delegates and cruz 1...fast forward to last Saturday....150-200 cruz delegates out of around 240 total delegates showed up and the cruz/gop/state rep. decided the voters (you and me) did not not know what the hell they were doing and decided that cruz “the chosen one” should get all the delegates.
The truth is cruz supporters/delegates believe they have the right to willfully disregard the will of the people by scheming, lying, cheating, and eventually stealing the delegates that are assigned to Trump by WE THE PEOPLE....and listen up people .......cruz has been doing this all over the country. This has been their game plan from day one....since they cant win the vote cruz has to come in the back door and steal from the voters...they are not stealing from Trump but are stealing from the voters (you and me)
Beaten to a pulp.
