My father spent his adult life hating “Tricky Dick” because that’s what good Democrats always said. A lot like the next generation who will always think of “Lyin’ Ted” because that’s what good Trumpsters always say. When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.

General Curtis Lemay, the Air Force Chief of Staff who retired rather than be part of Johnson’s half-a**ed war in Vietnam, was George Wallace’s running mate for VP in 1968 then got audited by the IRS during the first term of Nixon.

Lemay believes it was a warning to him to stay out of politics by Nixon.

I was a listener to the radio preacher, Dr. Carl McIntire, who’s radio station was shut down by the Nixon FCC on “Fairness Doctrine” grounds.

McIntire’s crime was advocating military victory in the Vietnam War, achievable if Lemay’s tactics had been employed.

McIntire received a letter of apology that was not specific, but sincere, from Charles Colson. Colson was the WH Counsel for Nixon who ended up in prison over Watergate and had the reputation as the ‘hatchet man’ for Nixon who dealt with his enemies.

But there's a BIG difference between the "TRICKY DICK" nick name and "LYIN' TED"! The latter is true; the former is a COMMIE SMEAR.

The "TRICKY DICK" thing came about because whilst running against Helen Gahagen Douglas, he printed flyers about her on PUNK paper. Yes, she WAS indeed a damned PINKO, but he only posted facts about her actual political history and NOT her delight in thins USSR !

At least Cruz is a Conservative and not faking it like Trump. How have so many here become so gullible?

To his credit, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas admits he is not a warm and fuzzy guy.

Yeah, just ask his kid.

I always admired the story about how he set up a casino / gambling operation during WWII.

"Cruz isn't likable -- and that's an asset"

Charlitans start out as "likable guys."

Cruz is strong and dedicated and does not sacrifice principle to expediency. That makes him capable of changing the direction of this nation at a time when we desperately need a direction change. It also makes him unpopular with those who want to continue to reap the benefits of the corruption that is destroying our nation.

Vote Cruz!

Cruz is like Nixon... only less likable... with a grating voice... and not born here with two American parents.

That is precisely why Cruz will NOT beat Hillary. Cruz will not get enough crossovers and independents to overcome the majority parasite vote.

It’s stupid to think not well liked is an asset.

Cruz is going to lose a bunch of people who normally would have voted for him thanks to his disgraceful behavior during the primary, too.

It shouldn't be a popularity contest.

But, alas, it is, which gave use eight years of Obama because Obama was "cool".

Obama and Trump have made me increasingly sympathetic toward the modern argument for a British (or Dutch or Scandinavian) style constitutional monarchy: the populace can lodge their affections on the monarch as head of state and the royal family, freeing them to vote on the basis of party platforms (or manifestos as they call them over here -- I'm sojourning in the UK this spring), rather than the personality of the candidate for head of government. I'm not entirely sure I buy the argument, but, as I say, I've become increasingly sympathetic to it lately.

Your time is just SO valuable that you took the time to post about what a waste of time this was for you. Uh huh.

Cruz is not likeable because he always thinks he is in a debate, and has long pauses, even when talking to 1 person.

It is very irritating. He seems almost robotic, with his answers.

“What I will say is I’m a pretty driven guy. That has pros and cons. I have always been a very driven guy.”

I’ve noticed he will do or say anything to win. Must be another one of his core principles.

“It shouldn’t be a popularity contest.”

Independent of the relative pluses and minuses of any of the candidates, unfortunately it always comes down to being a popularity contest. I wish it wasn’t that way, and that voters would be aware of the issues and how each candidate stands on those issues etc., but it just isn’t the case. Sad.
