Rep. Marlin Stutzman is a member of the anti-leadership House Freedom Caucus, a conservative in the mold of Ted Cruz and a three-term Indiana congressman who voted against John Boehner as speaker.
Now, he wants a promotion to the Senate -- and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his allies want to stop that.
Privately, McConnell has made clear to his confidantes that he wants to bolster the candidacy of Stutzman's chief GOP rival, Rep. Todd Young, and push him over-the-top in the May 3 primary, according to sources familiar with the conversations.
Publicly, McConnell's super PAC has made Indiana the first state of the cycle to begin an aggressive TV ad campaign on Young's behalf. And one of the GOP leader's closest allies, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, is also spending big bucks on the airwaves to promote Young....

It’s not Cruz himself but another establishment like Cruz. Read the article.
How much is McConnell’s endorsement worth in Indiana? Surely, Kentucky is close enough to know what a putz he really is.
Pinging Impy
Splitting hairs. And if he is “establishment” why is McConnell opposed to him? You can’t have it both ways.
It is another anti-establishment conservative like Cruz (who is part of the establishment) that the establishment is trying to stop. They are afraid that like establishment friendly Cruz, he will get to the Senate and actively work against the establishment.
It all makes perfect sense.
I know what you are saying. It was not Cruz himself Mcconnell is against. It’s the guy running in Indiana.
They DO love him, so long as he is willing to thwart the will of the people and be the GOPe tool that he is currently acting as. Once they done with him, though, look out!
Yes. Mcconnell is trying to save his seat to whether minority or majority, he doesn’t care. He’s 74 years old. Time for new blood. He’s not ready to go yet unfortunately.
Why not? You sure seem to when it comes to who can run for president, or not. Maybe you need to do some more research. Lol.
Go Trump
And if he is establishment why is McConnell opposed to him? You cant have it both ways.
Speaking of both ways....cRuz’s campaign (not his superPAC...that donated $500K to Carly) donated $250K to Midge McConnell’s NRSC...at a time when Midge and Thad were in tightly contested races, against TEA opponents.
McConnell play acts like he doesn’t care for cRuz, and vice versa. All part of the DC shell game :(
Here’s a little history of what was taking place, around that time....
*January 2014 Cruz announces he will not support any challengers in 14 mid-term elections.
*March/April 2014 Cruz supporting Mitch McConnell. (Donation made to NRSC)
*June 2014 McConnells full back-stabbing reaches sunlight over McDaniel in Mississippi and protection of Thad Cochran.
*July/August 2014 Cruz says he doesnt support McConnell any longer, yet remains on NRSC.
*December 14 Post election announces hes leaving the NRSC.
*Feb/March 15 Meets with Paul Ryan and constructs road map for CoC requested, TPP trade deal.
*April 15 Pens open letter promoting TPA with Paul Ryan
*May 15 Creates Fast Track trade rider to attach to TPA changing vote threshold for approval/disapproval to simple majority thereby insuring its passage. Also votes down amendment requiring congressional notification prior to China/Russia joining deal.
*May 15 Becomes first candidate to announce presidential bid.
*June/July 15 Votes against his own TPA bill (cover) even though the rider he created insures its passage.
Todd Young has voted with Boehner more than he didn’t.
Stutzman has has been consistent to the point he was removed from his leadership and committee positions for bucking Boehner
Don’t even try to attach Stuztman to Lyin’ Ted. There are no similarities.
So, cut it out.
Exactly. Stutzman actually paid a price unlike lyin’ Ted Cruz.
The point is that Cruz owes the GOPe/Bush Family big time. Not good. Chips will be called in.
Its the guy running in Indiana.
It the guy in Indiana "establishment like Cruz" or not?
We know the GOPe is using Cruz and may even throw him overboard at the convention for Kasich.
2 different IN radio hosts yesterday were already proclaiming Ted to be the winner here in the Primaries although one of them finally admitted that the only poll out there was months old and still had about 10 of the original candidates listed.
I have no insight as to who will carry the state, but I sure wouldn’t be going on record claiming one or the other.
BTW...few signs around here in my neck of the cornfield, but out of the few I’ve seen, they are Trump, Bernie, and anti-Pence. A friend of mine just put a Trump sign in his yard on Main Street. Kinda surprised me.
Have not seen a single Cruz sign in one of the most conservative voting districts in the country.
