Trump Is Taking On Water
The Federalist ^ | March 31, 2016 | Ben Domenech, Publisher

It was conceivable to see a realistic path for Trump not just to the Republican nomination but to the White House, but that situation is no longer operative.

Donald Trump has not had two weeks this bad since he got into the presidential stakes. His general election polling numbers tell the story: on January 31st, just two months ago, his RealClearPolitics polling average put Trump in a statistical dead heat with Hillary Clinton, trailing her 44-41 percent.

It was conceivable at that moment to see a realistic path for Trump not just to the Republican nomination but to the White House – that he redraws the map in challenging ways and would be a competitive campaigner at the least, even given the inevitable attacks of the Democratic machine. But that situation is no longer operative.

As it stands today, Trump is the only Republican who loses to Hillary Clinton by double digits. The two most recent polls, from Fox News and Bloomberg, find her up by 11 points and 18 points respectively. And a great deal of this has to do with Trump’s hardening opposition among women, particularly Republican women.

At the beginning of the Republican race, Trump was doing well among women, netting more than a third of their support. But a lot has changed since then – he peaked with Republican women in polling in December and has been declining ever since. His unnecessarily vulgar personal attacks – on Megyn Kelly, Carly Fiorina, and Heidi Cruz among others – almost certainly have something to do with that. But there’s something else going on recently which is hurting Trump: he’s not winning....

we will see on Tuesday

Nope. Sorry Cruzers, but winning Wisconsin, if that indeed happens, doesn't erase his 300 delegate deficit.

What's after Wisconsin? New York. Which has well over twice as many delegates as Wisconsin, and will cancel out anything Wisconsin may do for Cruz.

Rounding out the April calendar are northeastern primaries on April 26, such as Delaware, Connecticut, etc.

Wisconsin may well be Cruz's only win in the entire month of April.

Where’s the ‘Aw geez’ guy when you need him? According to the press, he’s been taking on water since last June.

Thass nice - what about Cruz's continued forays away for the Constitution/Rule of Law when he finds them convenient? How many will be loyal to the guy that they see making deals with those who hate him too and who will betray him in the end because they would all rather Hillary than Trump or Cruz?

So many have so many slants to the issues that there are new stories everyday that try to convince the People that they are all wet and that a "well-thought out dissertation" w/o the benefit of debate as the author builds what he wants to build because it might not be so easy to construct if someone actually asked questions and/or pointed things out during the process, should be consdiered as a reason to change one's mind?

I can't believe anyone falls for this crap. This is the same old "repeating it often enough will make it true" junk that we've seen time and again from the GOPe.

Not to mention the rather salient fact that Trump's campaign has been declared dead more times than I can remember over the past 10 months.

National matchup polls at this time are meaningless.

National matchup polls at this time are generally somewhat meaningful but not precise, and not a 100% guarantee. A poll saying that Pee Wee Herman (I once joked about Al Franken similarly, but that was in his SNL days) would lose to Hillary is probably accurate, even if the Witch's margin of victory might be off by several percent.

Polls today on the Cruz/Hillary, Trump/Hillary and Jeb/Hillary (Jeb can still dream, can't he? It's his turn, and Mommy wants it for him.) margins are similarly meaningful. History shows that polls at this point are a much better predictor than flipping a coin. History also shows that polls can be wrong on the outcome - that's what the political campaign is supposed to influence.

In Trump's case in particular, historical spring polling results are less likely to be meaningful than usual. In national elections in particular, polling data from the spring are more likely than usual to be meaningful. I have my own guesses, but I will not claim they have any validity, since we have no data on a candidate like Trump.

If they become convinced they could lose one or both houses because of Trump, they will throw out the rulebook to stop him, whatever the cost.
They're already doing this by collaborating with the enemy. Trump's getting hammered on all sides with a coordinated attacks from the Media, the GOP, the democrats, Soros and Cruz. Their only goal is to stop Trump but continued the fiction that they're not all on the same side. They're not terrified at losing the house of the senate, they're terrified that he'll win and clean house.

"The point at which Trump puts the House and Senate in play does not matter to him – he doesn’t give any indication that he cares about the prospects of the party or who he would be dealing with as president – but it matters a great deal to Republican donors, elected officials, and the class that guides the party. If they become convinced they could lose one or both houses because of Trump, they will throw out the rulebook to stop him, whatever the cost."

That's a little disingenuous, isn't it?

I mean, if it's Trump v. Hillary, and Trump managed to squeeze out enough votes to win the Presidency, do you really think he's going to be saddled with a Democrat House or Senate?

There would be such a populist groundswell required to elect him that the down-ticket should actually get a boost riding on Trump's coattails.

GOPe says "No, we don't need a trade war. We need cheap." Cheap products, cheap labor, "food" that is more cheap chemicals than nutritional. Fillers and substitutes and faux and plastic. Cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap.

Where is the quality any more? Most experiences these days are just disappointing, because no one seems to care anymore. They just do the very minimum.

Its true tho. The Soros, MSM, Establishment, Democrat and Cruz camp has been saying this variation of the war on Women strategy since Trump began running. However in primary election after primary election actual results show where he does fantastic with the women demographic.

In other words, You have bogus polls created by the 6 corp media pushing the Democrat strategy while Trump has real world results showing they are garbage.

But please keep it up, I understand there are millions of women who are angry at being told what to think by such as the people on here doing the work for Soros, Establishment, MSM, and Democrats against the Threat to them.

“we will see on Tuesday”

They’ve been predicting Trump’s unpopularity ever since he announced his candidacy, and see where it got him, first place.

2D really needs to get a life. This guy is about 10% of all articles on FR and they are all anti-Trump. Whenever i check in to FR, there’s a 100% chance 2D has posted a negative Trump piece within 5 minutes. Very sad really, but everyone has their thing.

Please make an effort to read the whole article and digest it before commenting. Thanks.

cincinatus wife takes a break, but you are here to take up the slack.

Are you trying to promote Cruz or just be a pain in the ass, because your constant publishing of anti-Trump articles {under the guise of information} will not convince a single Trump supporter to back Cruz.

Take a break, give it a rest, have a drink, say a prayer, sing a song, sit in silence, stick your head in the oven, have a nice day.

The Founding Fathers believed in tariffs, not free trade. They believed it was important to favor American businesses. And it worked very well until the late 20th century.

Trump has done more good for the political process than any man since George Washington. He deserves to be President for that reason alone.
