Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion

I can hardly believe how intelligent the framers of the constitution were to insert that statement in the constitution. That was almost 2 and a half centuries ago! I have spent time in 40 different countries, on 4 continents. Some long stays and some short stays on vacations. What I observed everywhere is that religion causes more strife among people than any other issue. Back to United States, in my opinion, the dividing line should be a privately owned business versus publicly owned business. A private business should have the right to make their own rules EXCEPT they can not do anything which could harm the physical health of their employees or customers. Not baking cakes is fine, no contraception insurance coverage is fine. There is no shortage of competition to find alternate employer or business. My rule of thumb in elections is, never vote for any candidate, who is pushing any religion. I have great respect for religious people, my own parents were quite religious. However religion has no place in US elections. Just my honest opinion.

I can kind of understand where you are coming from. There is a difference from being openly religious and mixing religion and politics.

By that I mean things like giving political speeches at church services. Not just church buildings but actual services where congregants ordinarily come to worship God, pray, and learn from the Bible. And sometimes that is replaced with a political speech.
