COLUMBIA -- Contention in the Republican presidential contest ticked up a notch Wednesday when Sen. Ted Cruz responded to a cease-and-desist request from Donald Trump's camp asking him to stop playing an advertisement by saying, "file the lawsuit."

Cruz told reporters in the morning that the letter accused his campaign of misleading the public in a TV ad that includes footage of Trump saying he is "very pro-choice."

"The letter said this attack ad, as they called it, is not only completely disingenuous but replete with lies, false defamatory and destructive statements and downright fabrications," he said, according to a CNN video.

Cruz said the letter threatened to sue him if the campaign doesn't remove the ad....

He doesn’t need to file a suit. He has ol Teddie right where he wants him, #3 in SC so he’ll stay in and suck votes from Rubes.

Good. I find it hilarious when Trump goes on Twitter and cries and threatens to sue.

I think Cruz would relish the chance.

He did very well winning cases to defend the 2nd amendment at the Supreme Court.

I think Cruz won several other cases at the Supreme Court.

He also coordinated with his numerous conservative friends in the house to fill the gang of 8 bill with poison pills-backed up by Jeff Sessions.

So while Cruz is an imperfect ( TPP and H1b at one point) politician, he is the closest thing we have to Reagan.

We just have not seen the ‘I am paying for this microphone’ moment like Reagan had in 1980.

If Cruz loses to Trump, I will support Trump. But I think we are going to be disappointed with Trump’s positions on key issues.

Of course, you are right. I am sorry I should have qualified my post; this will only happen if Cruz is still a factor after Super Tuesday. Even then he is almost as likely to ally with Cruz if one of the establishment guys finally is able to consolidate their votes. Reagan could hardly stand Bush but getting his delegates allowed him to safely avoid a brokered convention. We are seeing a lot of posturing right now.

Trump is just a gambler, file as many lawsuits as you can, he may get lucky in a few or they pay him to go away, just playing the numbers game. Hey that's like Sharpton & Jackson game.

Which brings up an interesting point. Cruz could hammer trump on tort reform and loser pays— 20% like in Japan.

Bingo. A LOT of posturing. Trump and Cruz will kiss and make up and Cruz will end up replacing Scalia-—if the idiotic GOP Senate will keep it together.

You could be right. As I just acknowledged in another post, this could still go a lot of different directions. Actually getting into court on the eligibility issue however is very iffy for Cruz. It would be better to not force Trump’s hand.

“Don’t think the courts will look too favorably on The Donald’s worry here since it is a political contest and lying about one opponent is taken for granted and has been common since day one. Teddy Bear had better look to his NBC problem.”

But it’s time that the tradition of lying change. The problem is lawyers and politicians find lying normal, while the rest of the population doesn’t. It would be great if Trump could enact consequences for lying.

But of course that’s not his real objective. It’s to keep the game about him, get the message out there that Cruz is lying, and doing it all for free. Cruz, like the media, is falling for it.

“For anyone to think that Cruz is ignorant of his citizen status is just ignorant themselves..., “

Didn’t Sen. Cruz himself admit he was ignorant of his own citizenship status until 2014 when he renounced his Canadian citizenship? I think it’s conceivable that his parents didn’t know a thing about citizenship, and having a child born abroad, what paperwork had to be filled into establish his US citizenship. Military or Foreign Service personnel are well aware of these things, but it is not inconceivable that a Cuban exile and his young bride would be woefully ignorant.
