Ted Cruz: ‘We can shock the political world’
The Washington Times' Inside The Beltway ^ | January 25, 2016 | Jennifer Harper

Posted on 01/25/2016 8:13:22 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

It is an old-fashioned, bodacious campaign blitz. Republican presidential hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz has multiple events in 26 Iowa cities and towns through week's end at a critical time: the next official GOP debate in Des Moines is Thursday, the Iowa caucuses are just six days away. Mr. Cruz is embracing the blitz and has plenty muscle. Campaigning this week with the candidate: Rick Perry, Rep. Steven King and evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaatz -- who have all endorsed the Cruz quest for the White House. The quartet will appear at seven rallies together on Tuesday alone, with stops at a bull ranch, a steak house and a 19th-century historic mansion.

"All across the country, conservatives are coalescing behind Ted, and just days from now, we have the chance to do something remarkable together. We can shock the political world with a victory for Ted in Iowa and begin the march to winning the Republican nomination and taking back the White House," advise campaign organizers.

The Cruzin' To Caucus tour spans a veritable road-trip of Iowa, with visits this week to Maquoketa, Manchester, Independence, Osceola, Albia, Centerville, Bloomfield, Ottumwa, Fairfield, Keosauque, Des Moines, Ringsted, Fenton, Emmetsburg, Wilton, Wapello, Hubbard, Ames, Hamlin, Ida Grove, Sioux City, Iowa City, Davenport, Des Moines, Jefferson and Marion....

Cruz has an awesome ground game just as he did when Sarah Palin helped him beat DooDooHurst.

There, fixed it.

And yet Cruz is taking millions from GOPe groups like Goldman Sachs and CFG.

Basic campaign finance law - Cruz cannot be taking millions G-S or CFG - the maximum donation from any one donor is $2700. The PACs that support Cruz might be getting money from those groups, but Ted has no control over that money. So at least be accurate.

Go back to vids where Beck said Mitt has received ‘devine protection and providence’.

There’s something bodacious going on all right. But it’s not Cruz’s campaign. It’s those fairy tales he tells.

Robert Mercer. The hedge fund magnate has battled with the federal government, which claims his firm, Renaissance, avoided paying several billion in taxes through artful tax strategies. So Mercer’s interests seem to align with Cruz’s animosity toward the IRS. Mercer’s money will reportedly be split among 4 super PACs, with each presumably taking a different role in the way they advocate for Cruz.

Club for Growth: Amount donated to Cruze since 2011: $706,000.

Senate Conservatives Fund: $316,000.

Woodforest National Bank (community bank based in Houston): $112,000.

Goldman Sachs: $69,000.

Morgan Lewis LLP (Philadelphia-based law firm with significant energy-sector practice): $68,000.

The $69,000 from Goldman is one of the largest sums employees from the Wall Street firm have donated to a single candidate during the last few years. The firm has given money to well over 100 candidates since 2012, but only six got more from Goldman than Cruz - and two of them were Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. Heidi Cruz, the candidate’s wife, manages investments for wealthy clients at Goldman’s Houston office, so personal connections may have helped raise the money. (Heidi Cruz announced she’ll be taking a leave of absence from Goldman during her husband’s campaign.)

Funny, Trump has no PACs. And when someone tried to start one up, Trump put an end to it. To say the PACs have nothing to do with the candidates is no more true then saying only patients in need are getting medical marijuana. We all know what is going on.

Employees? That’s not Goldman-Sachs, that’s private individuals. If a soldier donates to Trump does that mean the US Army supports him?

Funny, Trump has no PACs.

Well, when you have a billion dollars, you can do that. Color me unimpressed.

That's an interesting read that you linked. My take-away:

Iowa evangelicals must be different than the Mississippi evangelicals I was raised around.

If a Southern Baptist preacher in Mississippi tried to tell his congregation who to vote for, he'd be knocked out of the pulpit within a week.

Especially if he referred to half the congregation's preferred candidate as a "wicked man." LOL

Must be lingering resentment over Reconstruction. Those feisty Southerners don't take direction from anyone except their boss and their wife.

I admit I will be shocked if Cruz wins Iowa. Or comes within 10 points in NH. Or can win the 8 states primary to even be nominated. Or is ruled eligible. Or can recover his nice guy image.
