It's the day for polls, apparently.

Civitas reports a phone survey of Republican voters on the GOP presidential candidates with one big takeaway: It's a tie between Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz.

The numbers show Trump pulling 27 percent of the support, while 23 percent favored Cruz, which is within the margin of error.

Eleven percent said they have no preference in a candidate. Ten percent favored Sen. Marco Rubio, and 7 percent went with Ben Carson.

The rest: Chris Christie, 4 percent; Jeb Bush, 4 percent; Mike Huckabee, 2 percent; John Kasich, 2 percent; Rand Paul, 2 percent; Carly Fiorina, 2 percent.

Civitas Institute polled 500 likely Republican voters on Monday and Tuesday, with 30 percent of them on cell phones. The margin of error is plus or minutes 4.38 percentage points.

On Wednesday, PPP reported Trump putting increasing distance between himself and Cruz, 38-16 percent.

PPP had Trump up huge 38 to 16 in North Carolina this week. They actually have a track record and a good one for accuracy.

Looks like the new definition of a tie is a result of common core. :-)

PPP is a Democratic polling firm. No wonder you admire them.

I’ve learned to listen to PPP, even when I don’t like what they say. They admit to their biases, but their methodology is sound most of the time. They often pick up trends before other polling organizations.

I got a couple of questions for all the republicans that are vehemently against Trump....

If Trump is the nominee, who are you going to vote for???

Are you gonna vote?????

Yes I’d vote for him if he is the nominee. I prefer Cruz but I love the attention Trump brings to some of the issues that are important for the survival of our country. I do not think he is the best for bringing our country back from the brink. He is too much of a narcissist like Obama. I just hope Cruz will get the nomination.

Agreed...I hope trump or Cruz gets it...But I would vote for a dead cat before I’d vote for Hillary or Sanders....

Actually, PPP has been the worst poll for accuracy in the past few elections, particularly the 2014 Senate races, where Civitas was the third most accurate.

It might as well be. I see it is tagged as an Republican or GOPe polling outfit.
