Let’s get real. Most Republicans would be fine with President Trump.
The Washington Post's Plum Line ^ | December 9, 2015 | Paul Waldman

The question of the day is whether Republicans, particularly the Republicans running for president, would support Donald Trump if he were to become the party’s nominee. Much as they might hem and haw when they get asked — many insist that it’s a moot point since he won’t be the nominee — the real answer is simple: Of course they would.

Let’s put what’s happening right now in context. Periodically, the political press finds a question candidates (and sometimes other politicians as well) are having a difficult time answering, and so they ask it again and again. It’s not necessarily a “gotcha” in that it has no answer that won’t make the candidate look bad, but its attraction comes from the fact that the reporter knows it’s going to make the candidate squirm. That doesn’t mean it’s not substantively revealing, however. For instance, a couple of months ago all the Republican candidates were asked whether the Iraq War was a mistake, and their answers did tell us something about what they’ve learned from recent history. Hillary Clinton is often asked how her plans on one topic or another differ from what the Obama administration has done, which puts her in an awkward position but also forces her to be specific about what course she intends to pursue....

Let's get real. Most Americans would be fine with a Trump presidency. He will win in a landslide, especially if the dems run Hillary or Sanders.

The sad fact is that Trump is no real conservative

Speak for yourself, you are not qualified to make that determination or define conservative for me or anyone else. Stop pretending like you are.

Trump is VERY e4lectable; far more so than anyone else running in the GOP primaries.

My goodness, it seems that every single troll with a bee in their bonnet for Trump has attacked this one thread, after a fairly quiet day. Oh well, they can vote for Hillary or Trump, those will be their choices. 4 years from now, they’ll be on here talking about how they’ve always loved Donald Trump, and making fun of democrats. It’s the nature of things.

I think she and her good friend Donald Trump are two of a kind. I am going to stick to someone like Sen. Cruz who actually loves the constitution and actually believes in freedom and small government.

They aren’t “friends” at all, they are NOT “two of a kind”, and just WHAT are you going to do when Trump wins the nomination ? :-)

Nope not fine with Trump but I would vote for him vs Hillary.

With his history, i am not certain that he is running as a republican because he suddenly is a conservative or that he didn’t think he could win if he ran as a Democrat.

I am pretty sure that Trump has called the Clintons his friends at many points in the past. Not to mention the fact that he invited them to his wedding. There are two of the kind in that they are two narcissists who have no true guiding principles and no deep love for this nations constitution or liberty.

You just don't get it !

Trump BOUGHT Hillary, when she was a N.Y. Senator and inviting them to his last wedding was a show of whom he OWNED.

They are NOTHING at all alike!

Trump earned his money through hard work! For him, money is just a way to keep score.

Hillary is ENVIOUS and greedy and wants to have that kind of wealth, by ANY means possible, even ( well yes, especially ) is it's by illegal/stealth means.

Sadly, Ted Cruz will not be one of your choices in the general election. So, vote for Ted in your primary, if he’s still in it when your state votes, and then, when November comes around, you will have to choose between Hillary and Trump. Sad, but true. You will come around, Mr. Chapin, like the Cat’s in the Cradle.

That’s all well and good that you’re stickin’, but it would be weller and gooder to find a winner in the general to be stickin’ with.

...you are not qualified to make that determination or define conservative for me or anyone else.

The underlying and universal premise of conservatism is limited government.

Exactly when did Trump say that he subscribed to a smaller, limited government? And in what respect?

Trump is saying some conservative things. I hope he believes them. But I haven't heard him utter a word about limited government...

Well, the position of the Founding Fathers was that those rights were innate, not GRANTED by the Constitution, but recognized. Under that paradigm, it’s hard to see why God would give rights to an American he didn’t give to an Italian. But even if so, that doesn’t make it the job of the US government to make sure the Italian’s rights don’t get violated.
