John McCain was in a reflective, wisecracking mood Wednesday morning in Washington, but even in his most upbeat moments, he couldnât find much kind to say about Senate colleague Ted Cruz.
The GOPâs 2008 presidential nominee told reporters at a press breakfast that he wanted to âaccentuate the positiveâ in the 2016 race. He tiptoed around real estate tycoon Donald Trumpâs steely grip on the Republican presidential primary. When asked about the possibility of Trump becoming the partyâs nominee, he emphasized that heâs a loyal Republican.
McCain did point out that he had disagreements with Trump. But then, unbidden, he added, âI have disagreements with Senator Cruz. I donât believe we should shut down the government.â
Later on, the Arizona senator was asked which Republican candidates for president he thought were strongest on national security and which were the weakest. He said he preferred to focus on those he favored.
âObviously, I have the greatest respect and affection for [South Carolina Senator] Lindsey Graham. Heâs like a brother to me,â McCain began. âI do admire [New Jersey Governor] Christieâs gumption. I do admire [former Florida Governor] Jeb Bushâs proposals. I think [Ohio Governor] John Kasich, who I came to the House with me back in â82, has been a very successful governor in a swing state. [Florida Senator] Marco Rubio I clearly view as the next generation of leaders in the Republican Party, particularly on national security issues. Iâm sure Iâve left a couple people out. Thereâs a lot of very good candidates.â (continued)

McGollum can jump in a volcano.
John McCain is the kiss of death. If I were a candidate I would ask that he not mention my name unless prefaced with “That SOB, ...”
Has John McCain taken an oath to support the GOP nominee in the 2016 election if Cruz or Trump get the majority of delegates?
WHO has asked John McCain for advice?
No one I know...
He needs to call an end to his Political Career...his age and health are showing...
Hear a cool lady Doctor is running in AZ...sounds very interesting for that State..time to make a change...
Yup, Cruz should be quite pleased with that anti-endorsement. It’s amazing that McQueeg thinks anybody gives a damn about his opinions.
No wonder this guy never amounted to anything, he is a total RINO loser. How he ever found Sarah Palin to pick for VP candidate in 2008 when no one ever heard of her before is still a mystery. That’s about the only redeeming thing I can say about McBluster
So John McCain had kind things to say about Donald Trump but not so much about Ted CRUZ, is that about the sum of this article ?
The Gang of 8 McCain saying Trump is a “ Loyal “ Republican ?
Loyal GOPe Republican that can compromise and reach across the isle kind of “ Loyal “ Republican ?
Should Conservatives take MCcain’s words about Trump as a Red Flag warning ?
Is MCcain in a way saying that Trump is in the same flavor “ Loyal “ Republican as John Bonehead and Mitch McConnell ?
Those who are sitting on the fence between Trump and Ted Cruz should see this as a Red Flag to Conservatives.
Bill Kristol recommended Gov. Palin to him.
Right. He is so out of touch that his first choice for president would be Linda Graham? He picks the one person that is polling less than 1% and will never get back to the debates because of his low numbers. John Kasich? Christie? Man he is a RINO loser and he just exposed himself to everyone that didn’t already know his true colors. Is he ready to admit/confess that he aided and abetted the enemy of the US, by arming ISIS?
Who in the Hell is John McCain!?
Never heard of him.
“Who in the Hell is John McCain!?
Never heard of him.”
You probably know him by a different name....
Juan
Hahahaha
The GOPe is really getting desperate:
“Quick, get McCain on TV and have him say something good about Trump. That will sink him for sure with those useless conservatives!”
It’s like a backwards endorsement!
Who Cares? He needs to go away.
Don’t worry Johnny, they’re not going to shut down your precious govt. You guys can just go on spending us into a tinkers poverty... Or not.
McCain has lived off the military-industrial teat long enough. He should quit while he has the ability to enjoy what life he has left.
So McCain likes the four candidates who are polling a combined ten percent. Maybe. And didn't Kasich suspend his campaign this week because it's bankrupt? Senator McCain exemplifies all that is wrong with the GOP (maybe as much as McConnell does).
Well, that was predictable.
