If there is one thing I am certain of, it’s that Rubio will in fact NOT win the nomination. He has zero grassroots support.

How much grassroots support did McCain or Romney have prior to their winning the nomination?

Romney and McCain didn't have to contend with a Ted Cruz, who has massive grassroots support has raised money from as much as 15 times as many small donors as Jeb Bush and from vastly more small donors than anyone else on the GOP side, and has more cash on hand, a better ground game and better organization in all the early primary states than anyone else.
Not to mention Romney put in millions of dollars of his own money into his campaign. Rubio is as broke as a church mouse. He is the poorest of all the candidates.
