The Republicans who run the show, if they wanted to save the party, would cede the nomination to Trump and spend their money, time, and energy on finding candidates for DC whom voters can stand.

It does seem that if the establishment Republicans are going down (they're going down), they'd rather lose than step aside.

Carson will implode when his views on illegal immigration become well known. According to him, deportation is immoral and we have to give amnesty. We don’t need yet another President unwilling to enforce our laws.

Possibly the Carson numbers are actually being elevated by the truly “undecided”.

Carson is harmless and is Dr. Nice, at a time when people need to be soothed, perhaps to sleep, and also it is still early.

Maybe they are aghast at the boldness of Trump and suffer from general unease with anyone else being capable of actually winning against Trump, or any Democrat in the general election?
