According to AFP, 3,600 people came to this year's annual Defending the American Dream Summit from around the country Friday and Saturday, taking in appearances by a handful of the 17 Republican presidential candidates. Trump was not invited...

You missed the point of the post completely. His, mine, and possibly your ancestors in that time period were principled, and seldom flip-flopped. The modern version of Trump(f) shows none of those qualities.

Big difference in changing your mind, and a wholesale philosophical shift. The guy can’t be trusted as far as I am concerned. Prove to me, he won’t return to those misguided views after he becomes POTUS.

He is a problem solver. He will use whatever and whomever
he thinks will get the job done. Last night on JUSTICE He made a comment about the energy of the American people is being stifled by government and regulations That once that energy is released America will be great again. IMO he is right on target.
So as someone said earlier today “be part of the solution or get out of the way. The TRUMPet has blown! There is no retreat just forward go!
The to government will be returned to We The People : For the People

If Trump eventually drops out and anoints a king; it will be Ted Cruz.

Yes, generally, they were conservatives. At least many started that way. One was Benjamin Franklin who started life as a Puritan or Quaker — Puritan, I think. Later, he deserted his wife and family, and he lived a hedonistic, perverted life, especially while in France. Still, he did a pretty good job when it comes to America.

John Adams, too, ditched Abigail and kids for years at a time leaving them to fend for themselves back in the U.S. A conservative tenet is to provide for family. Where would we be without John Adams’ contributions?

Samuel Adams would be considered a loser, drunk, ne’er-do-well today. He’s my hero (after Geo. Washington) when it comes to our country’s existence and its exceptionalism.

By comparison, in some ways Trump is the better person. Every situation has to be taken on its own merits.
