ATLANTA The RedState Gathering is going on with business as usual, hearing from Mike Huckabee this morning, with Ted Cruz, Jeb Bush, and Scott Walker to come. But the Donald Trump matter is still the talk of the hallways, with most RedState attendees appearing to support RedState founder Erick Erickson's decision to "disinvite" Trump from a planned event this evening.
At the same time, some critics have pointed to crude or sexist statements Erickson himself has made over the years, suggesting a certain amount of hypocrisy in the decision to boot Trump. A short time ago, I asked Erickson about those criticisms.
"I apologized, and I'm not running for president," Erickson said. "It's as simple as that. They're re-tweeting things that I already have apologized for. Donald Trump isn't apologizing for this. And I'm not a candidate for president of the United States. If you're a candidate for president, I think there are certain lines that you just can't cross. We all fall short, we're all sinners, we all say dumb things. I at least have had sense to apologize for my dumb things, and Trump doesn't."
Erickson, a Fox News contributor, has also had a run-in of his own with Kelly. In 2013, Kelly invited Erickson on her program to discuss remarks he had made about women in the workplace, including the observation that "when you look at biology, look at the natural world, the roles of a male and a female in society and in other animals, the male typically is the dominant role." It wasn't an easy interview, with Kelly telling Erickson, "What makes you dominant and me submissive, and who died and made you scientist in chief?"
Erickson said that doesn't at all resemble the Trump situation today. "Megyn and I had an encounter where Lou and I were both roughed up by Megyn for comments on moms working," Erickson recalled with a laugh. "She and I, we still get along. I wasn't going to accuse her of being hormonal when she asked the question. We disagreed on something and moved on. That the first reaction of a candidate for president, when you get a tough question from a lady, is well, it must be her time of the month and that was the clear implication, despite what they're now saying is kind of insane, actually."
What’s with all this apology crapolla in politics anyway? No apology by a politician is worth squat anyway.
My attitude is, if I believe in what I said,I’m not going to apologize. No one should have to apologize for firmly held beliefs....or for being right....except for spineless Republicans. Which doesn’t really apply since Republicans on the whole don’t have firmly held beliefs anyway. Damn jellyfish.
If I say something in anger that I truly didn’t mean, and the other person even rates it, I will apologize. But even if I was incorrect I would never apologize to most of the Pubbies in DC, or any of the Democrats.
FYI all: I’ve been on Twitter a lot and Byron York posts every antiTrump pos article he can find. It’s like he’s in the seven stages of grief and he’s still between denial and anger.
People don’t get it .. Trump is Old School .. when guys used to comment that when a female was in an ugly mood, she was probably having her period. Or, as was used when I was much younger .. “on the rag”. LOL
Yeah, it wasn’t very classy .. but Trump is gonna say what he thinks .. even if it is not PC .. and I sort of agree with him, in that the DemocRATS have pushed women to become the protected class .. and you’re not allowed to say anything off-color to them or about them.
Well .. I know a lot of ladies who would laugh at such a comment .. and because Megyn didn’t - I suspected she would use it to further smear Trump - which of course was her only goal.
I think people are getting toooooooo worked up over NOTHING.
I can only imagine some of the things Churchill must have said behind closed doors.
The GOP/MSM are not happy Trump KO'd their lapdog.
apologize? for what? for being Donald Trump? He says these kinds of strange things all the time. He is a celebrity that had a TV show. People know what he is like and what you see is what you get.
Bastard Erickson STILL cheers
the starvation of Terri Schiavo
and toasts Jeb, her murderer accomplice,
for it.
I’m so glad I eliminated EE and his boring RS blog from my life years ago. For some reason, Rush lets him baby-sit his program from time-to-time - which is (to me) just more indicative of the slide of Rush’s show; he’s got lots of problems. Back to EE, this was all a way to ingratiate himself with the Jebster and the Establishment that is completely ruining this country. And elevating the Donald. Go, Trump, Go. Don’t change a thing.
Wow. Stupid fingers.
I meant ‘made him mad’.
redstate.com is the new Little Green Footballs
Al isn’t running this time.
Why does he think we want him to pick our candidate?
Erick Erickson is getting burned down on his Facebook page and the whole I’m going to go bigtime is crumbling in his face. He’s a total loser.
+1,000
Did Megyn apologize for acting unprofessionally during the debate towards Trump? I did not think so. Megyn had plenty of time to trash Trump on her show with guests; she did not need to wreck the debate by acting like an unfair and uncouth Demonrat
