Read my previous statements. I never said Trump said that. What he did say was McCain was a war hero because he was captured. If Trump had gotten through 6 years in the Hanoi Hilton without turning into a quivering, snotbubble-blowing bucket of mush, he’d understand that surviving that ordeal constitutes heroics far beyond His Holy Brashness could ever accomplish.
I’m no fan of McCain by a LONG shot, but for Trump — who received four deferments — to blather about the military service of ANY veteran is out of hand. That is my point.
I have no problem with your point in that, McCain endured many years as a prisoner of war. But I still can not call every prisoner of war a “war hero”. Bergdahl was also a prisoner of war for many years, but never a war hero.
But Trump actually went along with Luntz that McCain was a war hero because he was captured. Personally I would not have said that. But then I am not running for anything.
I will also agree with you that Trump should avoid saying anything disparaging about McCain or Kerry, both of who served. But then Trump is not a smooth talking professional politician. Expect him to make lots of not so smooth statements. I can live with that so long Trump directs his fire on issues critical to the country such as violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants.
