As the nation debates the placement of Confederate battle flags, Atlanta Democratic U.S. Rep. and civil rights legend John Lewis said its high time to take a look at the statues under the U.S. Capitol dome, starting with one of Georgias.
I think it should move, be removed, Lewis said in an interview Wednesday. I think there will be other symbols, not just from Georgia but other parts of our country [that are removed]. Its the beginning of a movement that will help us move toward the realization that were one people, were one nation and we have to be sensitive to our own history.
Crawfordville native Alexander H. Stephens served in Georgias legislature and the U.S. Congress as a Whig, a Democrat and a Constitutional Unionist. After the state seceded, he was selected as the vice president of the Confederacy, even though he had been a staunch unionist.
In March 1861, Stephens delivered what is known as the Cornerstone Speech in Savannah, laying out the reasons for secession. According to a local newspaper account, it included this ugly passage:
Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests upon the great truth, that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition.(continued)

No, they will never get enough liberalism. It's an addiction.
They don’t understand what they do and never will.
Bevin has killed any outside chance he had with all his recent liberalism.
No, much worse now except for Vietnam.
How many terrorists have we been lectured on tollorance and now they can pin one on a so called conservative and they get to unload.
Pray America is waking
These black activists and the white liberals supporting them remind me of the Taliban that destroyed the Buddhist statues in Afghanistan.
Excellent point.
Is Abe Lincoln next? Should we redesign the five dollar bill, destroy the Lincoln memorial?
There is no end to this madness. Lewis and others just want to use white guilt to assert more control over others.
There needs to be a purge, all right. But not of inanimate objects.
Our country has never seen the kind of division that will grow out of this tyranny. Mark my words.
Yes it will. Expect serious declines in many areas.
People are getting tired.
I do. Where is our military?
If the whole Nation is to remove all remotely symbolic Civil War symbols, then fine... BUT, THERE HAS TO BE NO MORE MENTION OF SLAVERY EVER AGAIN... Since the premise is that reminders of the Civil War, are reminders of slavery... So they BOTH go equally.
They are staying out of it.
I had a nice dinner in Fayettville, NC last night and Airborne is still Airborne.
The politics of B. Hussein Obama is not highly regarded.
they have to change the name of the Democratic Party because all that slavery stuff, Jim Crow and the radical racism of the last 170 years was all done under the name of the Democratic Party.. all the Democrats who voted against the civil rights bills, lynching laws, and those who fought for segregation at anytime in their lives must be expunged from public mention as well as any public streets, buildings or statues that carry their names.. that takes out half the democrats in politics who ever existed.. and some pretty recent ones at that.. let’s start with Al Gore Sr.and Robert KKK Byrd
Do they really want to take this to its logical conclusion ?
Fundamental transformation. It ends with Washington D.C. named after a known slave holder.
This man is a total buffoon. Just listen to him talk.
Trust me, he’s my congressman.
Only because of “government education” is a man like this elected.
not just time, but High Time !
I feel like I'm watching "who can be the biggest ass contest in America"
?
Hopefully The Lord will say... forgive them for they know not what they do.
OK Lets get rid of the Democrat party for starters.
