TPA, or similar a law, has existed for decades. The recent vote in the U.S. Senate was a renewal of the TPA, and Senator Ted Cruz, perhaps the foremost constitutional conservative in the Senate, supported it because it created a process in which the president could be held accountable. TPP was never voted on in the Senate or the House, and its language has not even been finalized.
My objection, at this point, to the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) is that it is secret, and only members of congress are permitted to read it. Ted Cruz has read it, and has issues not only with the secrecy, but on other points that he intends to address in the Senate. He especially wants to insist that any trade agreement with any of our Pacific partners under the TPP will get an up or down vote in congress within 60 days.
Trade in the Pacific has become crucial, because the un-named elephant in the room is communist China, who wants to dominate the region. Some sort of TPP must be passed; there is more than free trade at stake here, national security is tied to this....

Unlike you, I’m not jealous of successful people, I’m happy for them. Is it my fault that Goldman Sachs hasn’t hired you?
As it *was* written...well he ought to be against it based on how it currently is written.
LOL...fail on your part. Hey, next time you want to throw out talking points, make sure to get them correct.
I think you are confused with other candidates..I dont’ blame you...the constant bashing gets confusing, doesn’t it?
With the exception of these HUGE issues, Cruz has been a standup senator... However as things are now I’m not sure I trust him as Optus. Can he eight the sinking ship, that remains to be seen.
Hey don’t feel bad you will be rooting for Trump soon and you will not remember Ted Cruz. In a few months it will be like this never happened. :-)

Typing fail
Personally I think Cruz needs time in the Senate and time to get a litte more maturity and judgment just like Marco Rubio. Although I think Rubio will be running for Gov of Fla and that will give him 4 years to mature.
As I see this stuff play out its becoming painfully obvious we need a mature adult in the Whitehouse. Not one of these 40 somethings.
If Trump vs. Hillary is the game plan I’ll be on an Asian beach laughing so hard you’ll probably hear me.
Hey if you voted for Mitt and McStain you will vote for Trump. This will all be a distant memory soon. :-)
No, again, I’ll be on a distant beach, living like the Shah of Iran while you rail against the new, lower Soylent ration.
“No, again, Ill be on a distant beach, living like the Shah of Iran while you rail against the new, lower Soylent ration”
No you won’t you will still be in Michigan voting for whoever gets nominated. It won’t be Cruz. He was bucking the tide to start with and now he’s stubbed his toe and its going to end.

Michigan? I’ve never even stepped foot in Michigan.
OK Pittsburgh. :-)
Never been there, either.
Keep on keepin on.
Agreed.
I want 3 things from a Presidential Candidate.
1. Someone who can beat Hilary or who ever they put up after she implodes.
2. Someone who respects the Constitution.
3. Someone who doesn’t hurt me or my country economically.
I think this trade bill fails #3 and it will also make it much harder on point #1.
Talk to your co-workers and neighbors. They hate this stuff.
Frankly, I don't understand this argument on any principled grounds. The TPP will be subject to a vote after at least 60 days of debate. Is the issue simply that you don't think your position can command the majority?
Ted Cruz May 2015:
Sen. Cruz. I am a strong supporter of free trade, but I cannot support legislation that would allow the President to once again circumvent Congress to enact his own immigration laws.
Ted Cruz in June 2015:
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) argued Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) is not giving the president more authority and that Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is not accurate in some of his claims regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on Fridays broadcast of The Kuhner Report on Bostons WRKO.
Now, you tell me how to reconcile those two statements.....especially since, after the first statement, Cruz introduced an amendment to "fix" the TPA (meaning, he thought there was a danger) and prevent Obama from altering immigration laws. But that amendment failed by a big margin.
...and then, Cruz voted for the unaltered and unrevised bill anyway, but now wants to tell us the second quote above.
Now, Sen Sessions has been sounding this alarm from the beginning, and has voted against TPA.
Either Sessions or Cruz is lying....and Sessions has not contradicted himself.
“Does the consumer get that 5%? If so what was the motivation of moving their factory over seas? Altruism or the bottom line? The consumer gets no benefit at all IMO”
The consumer gets a considerable percentage if not all of the savings because of competition between producers.
