TPA, or similar a law, has existed for decades. The recent vote in the U.S. Senate was a renewal of the TPA, and Senator Ted Cruz, perhaps the foremost constitutional conservative in the Senate, supported it because it created a process in which the president could be held accountable. TPP was never voted on in the Senate or the House, and its language has not even been finalized.
My objection, at this point, to the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) is that it is secret, and only members of congress are permitted to read it. Ted Cruz has read it, and has issues not only with the secrecy, but on other points that he intends to address in the Senate. He especially wants to insist that any trade agreement with any of our Pacific partners under the TPP will get an up or down vote in congress within 60 days.
Trade in the Pacific has become crucial, because the un-named elephant in the room is communist China, who wants to dominate the region. Some sort of TPP must be passed; there is more than free trade at stake here, national security is tied to this....

I kept millions of secrets in intelligence. Was that wrong?
I’m with you; still for Cruz but skeptical now.
Did you object to essentially the same TO A under President Bush? Now TPP is a different matter together. No one has voted on TPP yet, and Ted Cruz has serious objections to TPP.
TO A = TPA

And our middle class standard of living has been declining for decades.
Diet Cola has existed for decades, and our middle class standard of living has been declining for decades.
Women wearing trousers have existed for decades, and our middle class standard of living has been declining for decades.
I concur. The Cruz is starting to look a little shifty; and it may be that big money donors have now dictated his policy. He has dropped at least 9 slots with the biggest shift downward in the integrity column. He would still be a slight plus over any democrapper but is in a near free fall now. My 50 bucks would not have meant anything to his efforts anyway.
Ted this wound could be mortal, you will have to be very impressive to recover that which you ceded.
At least we agree on one thing.
We are talking about a law and a trade bill. Secret laws are wrong on their face.
I almost sent Ted some money, but was never quite convinced to that point.
“Did he NOT call for it to be made public or are you going to use the same tired anti-Cruz talking points?”
He did ask that it be made public, but that’s not good enough. If all the members that voted for it refused to do so until it was made public, It would have been...
Ted is right on all accounts.
What he is not able to is to overcome the mood that exists to repudiate anything that Obama touches. He might have recognized this and positioned himself accordingly
But some influential conservative Texans wanted him to grab TPA now because the democrats in the Senate won’t give him the necessary 60 votes in 2017 when he is President. So it was now or never for conservative industries and their hoped for exports. America loses as a result for future years under a Cruz Administration. But Ted is smart enough to find another way.
I’m not worried about the trolls, hacks, media moles and thick-skulled FR posters and their campaign to separate Ted from his base. I’m not worried because they’re stupid.
Ted is on a whirlwind tour meeting and speaking to the grassroots and he’s creating a sensation everyplace he goes. The numbskulls on this thread who are beating their chests would not be able to survive seconds in the ring against Ted on any subject and everyone watching would see them for the fools they are.
TPA will be old news very soon and the fools that pound their chest now will have nothing to crow about in a short time. In the meantime Ted will continue to gather critical momentum and support.
“Instead of waiting and watching how Cruz works in the campaign...”
We are discussing his VOTES and ACTIONS that are very pertinent to the campaign.
I will not ignore a candidate’s actions.....especially when they contradict his words.
If Cruz does not support vigorous policies to encourage self deportation, he wimps on illegal immigrants present. You have to be able to understand that
Technically it’s not irreversible.
Practically, yeah it would be.
He may be the smartest but he is weak on results.
Again, you must have wanted Dewhurst.
I did not vote in Texas....Lord get over Dewhurst...he’s not running. You must want him to though as you keep bringing him up. Cruz filibustered and then had the dang bill passed....to me that is weak. If you can convince people to follow you, you are not a leader.
We said in the beginning that Cruz would need to be given room to move about in this election run because he has to gain more than just conservatives to vote....the constraints on him when it’s so early and this by his supporters is not going to get him the election as hoped for.....
It’s too early to knock out any of the candidates....it looks exactly like the Democrats want it to look...like we eat our own.
I’d just encourage people to stay on the debate issues and debate....instead of the fear mongering many are inciting here.
Cruz has not contradicted himself...show me where?
Yes, my friend, and I’m hopping mad about it!
