Sorry, Ted. The big thing (means testing) needs to be added. Our neighbor ($ 50 million in assets and he lets everyone know) doesn’t need SS for greens fees.

“he big thing (means testing) needs to be added. Our neighbor ($ 50 million in assets and he lets everyone know) doesn’t need SS for greens fees.”

So it should just be another progressive tax? Not very conservative opinion.

Assuming he accumulated his wealth during his lifetime, he probably paid in the max each year. It’s his.

Front End Income Confiscation + Means Testing. It's still Marxism.

Someone with $50 million is an easy target. But to save enough to make a difference with means testing, the threshold would have to be set much lower. If you set it at $50 or $70 or $100k a year in non-Social Security income, the people directly affected would manage well enough, but the money would be coming right out of their children's inheritances.

A lot of middle and upper middle class parents try to live on pensions and Social Security in order to avoid dipping into their nest eggs. The point is not to turn their kids into trust fund trash, and most don't have enough money to even raise that possibility. But enough money to pay off student loans, to pay cash for a house (and avoid a lifetime of debt service), or invest in a business, to send kids to better schools, or simply to have a modest safety net ... these are real, and worthy, objectives.

I have had my share of opportunities, but I have never had much flexibility at a tolerable risk level. Life can be a bit of a treadmill. I would like to give my children better options than I had.

Bull Crap! He paid into the program just like everyone else. He wasn't given a choice and neither was I. It would be better to eliminate the benefits of those who never earned them by paying into the system like immigrants and their elderly family members or those who are not really disabled. Primarily drunks and druggies who are drawing a monthly check

There is lots of waste and fraud that can be cut and the idea that anyone on this supposed conservative website believes that since someone did better than they did they should be robbed through excess and fraudulent taxes is astounding.

Just goes to show that the Lefts propaganda and class warfare is working.

Social security is already means tested, by how benefits are calculated.

And the SSA has already evaluated further means testing. I will dig up th URL later, but it has very little effect unless you apply it to middle income retirees.

How offensive that you feel that the man who paid into the fund should not get it back.

I don't care how much the guy is worth, if he paid, and he WAS FORCED TO DO SO, he is supposed to get it back.

Does it really matter if the guy will use it to pay greens fees, or pass it along to his family, or whatever he wants to do with it?
