I am an admirer of Dr. Carson.
However, I have never believed the presidency should be the first office you run for election.
Color me old fashioned if you like. But I still believe in working your way up and establishing a track record before running for the nation’s highest office.

Some of the contenders, including Carson, may mostly be intending to elevate the discourse. And they probably will, as long as everyone remains classy.

I assume that being an important General gets you a waiver on that requirment (Grant, Eisenhower), and perhaps those who were appointed to a cabinet level position (e.g. Hoover)

You are of course right. However we had presidents who were not previously elected, such as Eisenhower.
I see no path for Dr Carson to win nomination. However, what he is saying is important, and will help push GOP towards his agenda. So it is all good.

(Prediction: Walker will win Iowa primary, NH is wide open, SC looking good for Cruz)
