Expect a lot more of this as the campaign heats up. Two things: He won over 40% of the Latino vote in 2012 in a state where most of them are of Mexican descent or Mexican and he doesn't speak Spanish.

Actually, this is a big point.
Worth considering.

Actually, I'm not a right-winger drooling at the 'hispanicness' of Cruz, and I personally don't believe that any candidate HAS to get 30% or 40% of the Hispanic vote to win. Obama and his ilk are the ones that NEED the [illegal] Hispanic vote. To me, all one need do is to listen to him about what his convictions are, his value of the Constitution, the rule of law, and limited government. When he speaks on these and other topics, you don't have to wonder if he's speaking the truth. That trumps everything else IMO. He's my guy, and he's the one for whom I'll vote.

Precisely! I could give a rats rear end what this guy’s ethnic origins are.

Of course. The Democrats used this exact strategy with the current office-holder.

“extreme right Republicans”
Is that what they are calling real Republicans nowadays?

Leftist, Mexican resentment against Cubans is worth considering?

Hit piece. I’m glad I voted for Cruz and we got to slap Dewhurst on the back of the head at the same time. A small but enjoyable addition to Cruz’s victory.

That's true of almost all Conservatives, but to win the middle he'll need more. Whether we like identity politics or not, this does help.

Thanks, and I agree that it doesn’t hurt per se. Except in the case where that ‘feature’ becomes the prime narrative. It’s the same problem I have with conservatives touting someone as a ‘black conservative’. It runs the danger that some other aspects of this person’s beliefs might be glossed over of in favor for that one plus.
As an example, I heard here over and over again about Ben Carson......lots of it slanted towards the “.....and he’s black, too” side. Then after reading articles about him and accounts of what he said and wrote (one in particular about voting RINO because they were the only game in town), clearly turned me off to the point I won’t vote for him for anything. Not even enough to make me want to stick around and hear what he has to say about Amnesty, Immigration Reform and the like.

Senator Ted Cruz is an American candidate for president. The fact that he happens to be Hispanic is as irrelevant as his wife’s eye color, or it would be if liberals were not such shallow racists.

The Journolistas are putting out hit pieces.
Right on time.
I'd quote from this biased lefty posing as a journalist totally factual account of Ted Cruz, but I might throw up in my coffee
To: Gaffer
Precisely! The GOP candidate does NOT need 40% of Hispanic votes to win anything. The GOP candidate needs to increase the white vote turnout and have a heavy turn out of the conservative base. That’s about it.

One of the things that I like about Ted Cruz is that he is an American fighting for Americans. He does not go around waving the "hispanic" card or pandering to hispanics as one of them. He is not constantly lobbying for amnesty or other Mexican/Central American priorities.
He is unlike other "hispanic" congress reps, whose first priority is lobbying and representing Mexico and other Central American countries.

How is Cruz going to explain to them why he brought the nation to the rink of economic disaster by shutting down the government in a zealot's attempt to rescind Obamacare - I hate the media. We were never on the "rink" of economic disaster. Drama queen!

Same here. At the time a coworker of mine told me that she was going to vote for Dewhurst because she thought he had a better chance of winning in the general election.
