President Barack Obamas executive action on immigration, granting de facto amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, has so outraged the tea party faction of the Republican Party that the ultra conservatives are focusing their attention and resources on this single issue, potentially causing a fissure within the party, according to The New York Times.
"What started five years ago as a groundswell of conservatives committed to curtailing the reach of the federal government, cutting the deficit and countering the Wall Street wing of the Republican Party has become a movement largely against immigration overhaul," writes the Times Jeremy Peters.
"The politicians, intellectual leaders and activists who consider themselves part of the Tea Party have redirected their energy from advocating fiscal austerity and small government to stopping any changes that would legitimize people who are here illegally, through granting them either citizenship or legal status."
Tea partyers are rallying behind a group of sheriffs who will demonstrate at the Capitol next month while simultaneously preparing to try to knock off "high-profile Republicans they accuse of betraying them."
Peters points out that it was this type of organizing and vigor that helped the tea party defeat former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor....

I hope they are. That would mean they can’t do anymore damage to US from D.C.
B I N G O !!!!!!
This has always been the problem. Those who were afraid of the Tea Party (the Rhino’s and GOPe of the party), are the ones who start all the feuds. Such as John McCain calling Ted Cruz a “whackobird”.
But, when McCain sent me an email requesting a donation, I replied: “Sorry, I’ve already donated to WHACKOBIRD”. Funny, I never got another email from him.
But .. since when has the NYTimes had anything correct about the Tea Party ..???????????????????????????
Most of those who write about, or comment upon, the TEA Party have no clue as to what they are writing about or commenting upon.
The breadth and depth of the MSM's ignorance is really quite amazing.
They actually know less about us now than they knew about Obama in 2008.
Never mind using the term “ultra conservatives”, which only liberals would use.
As a rule I don’t listen to libtards lecture me about what I’m doing right or wrong as a conservative.
So fork off, Barry.
Opposing amnesty IS fiscally responsible. They do/will cost us much more than they’ll pay in.
On that argument alone they fit into the TEA party agenda.
The Tea Party = We The People

Tea Party’s Singular Focus on Amnesty Troubles GOP
That the GOPe is not focused on this bother me as an American citizen. Amnesty is NOT a Singular issue. It will effect current and future immigration it effects our education systme our healthcare system jobs/the economy and much more.
Those of us who do not live in gated communities, those of us who do not exploit cheap illegal alien labor, those of us who used to constitute the shrinking middle class, those of us who have to live with the “undocumented immigrants” rather than in high rise condominiums or exurbia are tired of the criminals entering our neighborhoods. Poll after poll shows that a majority of Americans want secure borders, interior enforcement and more restrictive immigration laws. Those of you in the Beltway or accepting the “contributions” from the US Chamber of Commerce or the Silicon Valley, do not get it. If your children attended overcrowded public schools, if you saw area hospitals closing due to an influx of foreign patients, or if you had to live along side the crime and the graffiti, maybe you would understand. We live with these people and this is not the American culture that we cherish!
Just too bad. At the moment, nothing else really matters.
The two key issues are immigration and Obamacare. The others are, for the moment, distractions. Immigration, like others are writing, has a timer and if not undone soon, will be very difficult to reverse.
Hey! GOP!
Wait till I shove it up your A$$ January 3rd!
The TEA party’s singular focus on amnesty and US sovereignty.
The TEA party’s singular focus on taxes - smaller govt., lower taxes.
The social conservatives singular focus on abortion/pro-life.
The social conservatives singular focus on homosexuality/pro traditional marriage.
The RKBA supporters singular focus on gun rights.
The Constitution supporters singular focus on the Constitution and the rule of law.
The RINO myth of the single issue voter. There are at least six issues above that the RINOs refuse to deal with. If you are conservative, all those single issues are interrelated and important. If you are GOP establishment or elite, none of those issues are important unless you can use them politically to get people to vote for the RINO.
Strange that they would focus on one issue that will decimate the U.S worst than Fast & Furious, NSAgate, Behnghazigate, IRSgate, or ACAgate? Yes because they will increase our taxes, overwhelm our resources, take away our jobs, don’t pay into the pot, and overpopulate our country because they breed like rats and the longer we let it go the worse it will get? Yeah I’d say thats a real good reason to focus on that one issue above all others. What part of common sense, logic, or rational thinking don’t those guys understand?
hey we got lots of bones to pick with the RATS and the GOPe...amnesty is just one!
Comments like yours make me wish that FR had a “Thumbs Up” button. Excellent point.
Illegal immigration is the core issue that affects so many problems in America today. You resolve the problem with the illegals, and many of the other problems subside.
