Ruben Villarreal knew he was different, and it had nothing to do with his curlicue mustache. The Latino tire-shop owner with the ten- gallon hat had been mayor of this border town for several years before he dared to discuss his political affiliation. He felt like a cactus around balloons.
Its not easy being Republican, he said, when everybodys a Democrat.
As long as anyone can remember, the South Texas counties that make up the Rio Grande Valley have been two things: Hispanic and blue-as-the-big-sky Democrat. In Hidalgo County, along the Rio Grande, the locals say a Republican hasnt won a countywide office in recent memory. Even though Republican governors have led Texas for two decades, their best showing among Hispanic voters was in 1998 with George W. Bush, who didnt even win half.
But this year, Republican nominee Greg Abbott, the states attorney general, has set out to break Bushs record by making the rapidly growing Hispanic vote and the Rio Grande Valley central to his campaign. The day after Abbott announced his candidacy in San Antonio, he was in McAllen, on the Mexican border. He has visited the area 14 times during the campaign, most recently for his first debate with the Democratic candidate, state Sen. Wendy Davis....

Greg Abbott is a squish on tuition for illegals.
Said it was noble but flawed.
I hope he is force to veto or sign a repeal.
How is he on other major issues versus Wendy Davis, do you think?

Of course vote for Abbott against Davis especially in Governor races. Id be happy if Cornyn and Cochran lost- Id probably pick those 2 specifically if I could pick only 2 races to lose.
I was just pointing out he wasn’t as conservative as some might think he is.
The Texas Hispanics, Latinos, and Mexicans are giving a second look at what Obama and the democrats have done for the black community and the rest of the nation. I think this will cause a few to switch parties.
Cant compare Texans with Californians...Hispanic or not! LOL
Id be happy if Cornyn and Cochran lost-

Cornyn isn’t up for reelection until ‘16.
Ted Cruz got 38% of the Latino vote!!
He’s up for election this year!!!
But clearly not enough to offset the pro-amnesty & welfare subsidized.
Why, no.
Why would you even ask?
Ping for later read.
You are wrong octex. Cornyn is up for reelection this year. Remember he won the Primary in March w/o a run-off. But, that doesn’t change the fact that he is a low-life, scumbag, RINO, a**hole.
You are so right!
I’d completely forgotten about him winning the primary in March, since I haven’t seen any TV ads pushing him.
